See, this is my problem.
Now, to address your points - I already have Win Ten on my Laptop. It's a bundled version that came with the laptop.
I don't want to create a bootasble from that, because ig's commercial and contains ads and bits of anti virus stuff. This is why I bought a clean copy of Win Ten, full price, with its own Product key.
What I WANT to do (for the umpteenth time) is to creat a bootable usb drive FROM my clean Win Ten Disk.
Does whatever you are suggesting help me do that.
If it don't - just say "no", don't confuse me ebven more with options that YPOU understand but I don't.
Media Creation Tool - can't seem to find it - any tips ?
Just as I said, but you didn't pay attention... I meant to use your working laptop to Google for Windows 10 Media Creation Tool. The first result should be Microsoft's website where there is a link to download the tool. Download it, run it and you should be given the option to select and download Windows 10 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) at your own language. Download the appropriate ISO. Use Media Creation Tool or Rufus to prepare a bootable USB Flash Drive with this ISO (don't just copy the ISO file inside). Put this USB Flash drive on your computer and boot with that to start a new clean Windows 10 installation. That simple!
You still speak of things that I don't understand, but I worked out how to DL the Creation Tool and got this exe file :-
MediaCreationTool1809.exe
So I did the necessary and found a 32Gb USB stick that was almost empty.
I deleted the files and formatted it (nowhere did it tell me that I had to do this, I slogged through two abortive DLs where it got to 99% verification before bombing out and aborting the process.
Having formatted, it went through to completion. On the way, here's what happened :-
sO, i NOW HAVE MY usb STICK IN A PORT ON MY BROKEN pc.
However, turning it on and off doesn't do anything.
Is this anything to with the Boot Order ?
Probably you need to prepare a USB Flash Drive for UEFI boot, bot Legacy (CMS, BIOS) boot. Download Rufus and make sure you select GPT (UEFI), then proceed to create the USB Flash drive from the ISO you downloaded. This should show on the boot list as the drive's manufacturer (eg Kingston) or as USB Hard Disk or similar.
Okay, much of what you say I half understand.
I have shown the Explorer 'tree' from the USB stick onto which the creation media thingy downloaded the details.
I can't see anything with the extension or name containing the letter "ISO".
How do I get the bios to load from the USB drive?
I'm assuming that I have to make the Bios look at the USB Port into which I have the USB stick plugged.
So, you can see the options for Boot order on the screen dump, How do I know which drive to make the Boot and how do I select that drive as the primary, please.
I have tried but can't seem to hit it.
Known extensions are hidden in Windows. I am referring to the Windows 10 file you downloaded with Media Creation Tool. Yes, you plus the USB and if it doesn't show in the boot list press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart the computer. It should show the second time.
