Registry Editor Missing from Administrative Tools in Start menu

    Hi Guys,

I hope I've come to the right place to share this mystery with.

Basically, I just discovered that my Registry Editor is missing from the Administrative Tools in the Start menu as shown in the image below:

However, when I view Administrative Tools in File Explorer, it's right there in the list as shown here:

Isn't that a mystery? Does anyone know how I can get the Registry Editor back on the Administrative Tools in my Start menu?

    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hello Andrew,

Did you add another Registry Editor shortcut to the All Apps list in your Start menu? Doing so, could break other instances of it in All Apps.

If you like, the ZIP file in the tutorial below contains all the default shortcuts in Administrative Tools you can use to try and restore the Registry Editor shortcut from.

I previously did, but I would've thought with two recent Windows 10 Update the Registry Editor would be on the list anyway since other people's Windows 10 Start Menus do. I don't understand why mine does not.

Does it get restored under "Administrative Tools" if you remove the other copy?

If so, you could try using a different name for the other copy so it hopefully won't affect the one in "Administrative Tools".

Interesting, I've just looked at mine and it's missing too....

...turns out that having it pinned to Start as a tile is what made it disappear for me. As soon as I unpinned it from start it was back in All apps.

Edit: then I was able to pin it to Start again without making it disappear from All apps - what an odd bug

Interesting that pinning it to Start would break it so easily.

I don't know when it disappeared, maybe during an update? But I've now pinned it back to Start and restarted explorer.exe without it disappearing from All apps.

Edit: and it is still there after a full Restart from cold.

All my systems have Regedit pinned to Start. I've just checked another system and it's missing there too, this one is on 1903. The same fix worked for that. Odd.

@YanAndrew has found an interesting bug, fortunately one with an easy fix. Let's hope it is a permanent one

I thought it was, so I checked my collection of VMs. No, you're right. It wasn't in XP, W7 or W8.

But seems it was added to Control Panel > Administrator Tools for W10.

RegEdit is in my Start menu, Windows administrative tools by default in all three of my Windows 10 computers.

I have never adjusted any part of my Start menu because I never use the Start menu.
