    Computer shuts down when idle

Hi. Right after installing yesterday’s Windows Updates, my computer started shutting down after being idle (or as soon as the screensaver came on). I’ve run Avast! and Maleware Bytes — both are clear, and I’ve tried clearing my browsers’ cache. Nothing seems to work. Everything was fine until the updates were installed, but maybe it’s a coincidence(?)

It runs smoothly as long as it’s active. Any ideas?

P.S. Please bear in mind that I’m not very familiar with how these things work, so explainations are best if they’re given in easy-to-understated terms.

Thanks for the reply. I just changed the “When plugged in, turn off after” to Never. Before it was set for 30 minutes.
The second one was already set to Never. I’ll give it a few minutes and see if it worked.

Check Task Manager in Administrative tools. Malware does not shut a machine off, no need to scan. See Powercfg command-line options | Microsoft Docs how to diagnose shutdown issues. The machine could also be overheating for some reason and shutting down.

The PC was definitely shutdown no indication of power to it, if you tapped a key on keyboard or clicked mouse nothing came back on ? Could also be a driver or hardware issue. Maybe needing a BIOS update, but would not suggest that one as of yet.
