Want to know if 1809 is fixed

I notice in my update check this morning there is the 1809 build initialising and I don't particularly want this to upgraded to the new build as I have just spent a lot of time getting this machine to run as I like it so I quickly shut the machine down.

Is there any way of stopping that update??

Enable or Disable Windows Update Automatic Updates in Windows 10

If you don't like automatic updates, though, you probably shouldn't be running Windows 10.

I'd use a Backup Image, disconnect your network and then you could try this:
Stop Windows 10 Updates Properly and Completely

I have a W10 Pro 1703 VM that I run using VMware Player on Linux Mint.
I have all network settings disabled (in W10 & in the VM manager).

If I need the Internet I use LM.

If it is Pro you can switch from the 'Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted)' to ''Semi-Annual Channel' and/or defer Features Updates for up to 365 days.

Having said that, I have had no issues with 1809 so you should be safe. A Macrium image of your current 1803 would be a wise 'insurance policy' though.

I am increasingly seeing reports of 1809 appearing in Windows Update when you check for updates. Seems Microsoft are getting good reports back from their telemetry and are beginning to ramp up the rollout, as they said they would.

...For those advanced users seeking to install the update early by manually using “Check for updates” in settings, know that we are slowly throttling up this availability, while we carefully monitor data and feedback.

Do you have a system image to go back to if 1809 is not to your liking? If so, then why not let it install? Even if you don't have a system image, you will have 10 days after the upgrade in which you can roll back to your previous version, should you want to.

Thanks Bree I tried making an image to a DVD as I am not really that competent in using that feature in Macrium and I suppose I shall have to let it install then roll back to 1803 if I can is there a tutorial on doing that??

Look I am really peeved more than you can imagine as to why Microsoft are being so intrusive because like I said the machine is running just how I like it in fact I was becoming quite comfortable using 10 and now this.

I think that some of the designers or whoever dreams this stuff up should make sure that anything ie a new build is foolproof before they release it and if I have to reinstall I shall be about the most angry person you can imagine. I cannot ever remember having these sorts of issues with 7 and frankly having to pay good money for something like 10 then I expect like anyone should to have a product that is workable and usable. I don't know about you but I hate this on again off again OS that is proving to be to me at least very disorganized and haphazard.

Once you install W10, MS believe that they own your hardware (i.e. they can do whatever they like, whenever they like).

IMO, if you want a low maintenance OS, avoid letting W10 connect to a network.

My W10 Pro 1703 VM (VMware Player on Linux Mint) has run flawlessly since I blocked all network access.

You may not feel a need to roll back, 1809 may turn out to be a pleasant surprise after all. If you do want to roll back, then...

I hope MS will have learned some lessons from their first disastrous 'false start' with 1809. The re-release of the 'fixed' version looks to be taking a slower and more cautious approach to the rollout. If it has been offered to your machine then at least MS's telemetry tells them it has installed without issue on other machines like yours.

Yep I agree Peter I am just so angry at the moment because the 1809 build has caused so much angst and still they release it without knowing just what it will do to people machine/s - stuff they have paid good money for and those who built their own machines using again heard earned money.

I am installing this wretched update but if anything goes wrong then I shall find that way of rolling back to 1803 and it certainly has got me thinking about Linux again at least there wasn't any of this nonsense just that I found it hard to understand at times.
