    impossible to find the file.....& error 0x80070002

    I hope this is the correct side for the following thread.

    Product: HP PRODESK 400G4MT
    Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-Bit)

    Since one week the installation of new applications stops with message: " impossible to find the file...."and sometimes with the issue: "error code 0x80070002".

    Really the file exists on the computer system, but it is not anymore accessible.

    Some applications, that where correctly operating, now are blocked with issues like " the file does not exist
    (and error 1075 because the relevant service is freeze and impossible to modify).

    I used MALWAREBYTES to find possible virus after put them in quarantine no improvement!
    I also used Ccleaner to clean registers without result.

    I scanned the system with sfc/scannow and the result was ok.

    The issue "USERINIT" of HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon seems to be correct: C:\Windows\system32\userinit.exe,c:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP ProtectTools Security Manager\Bin\DPAgent.exe,

    I loaded a restore point of one mont before without results.
    If I would repair the W10 I don't know if is possible to do without cancel the installed appliations.

    Please I need suggestions: as last hope I would not reinitialize the computer since I have to reinstall all the applications...

    Thanks

    Hi, first can you confirm the System Restore completed successfully (S. Restore is well known to be not very reliable).

    Which Windows build are you using?
    This can be really important, and most people don't mention it or include it in their specs.
    Windows key + R, winver.

    You say SFC /SCANNOW passed, so just for test purposes, please try creating a new user, log in as that user, and see if you have the same problems or not, and post back.

    Do you have any disk images? We constantly urge users to routinely use disk imaging (e.g. Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for image sets). You say
    as last hope I would not reinitialize the computer since I have to reinstall all the applications...
    . Using disk imaging can often mean you can restore your system to a previous good state (and any imaged disk or partition) and so avoid a clean install.

    History: do you have any idea what happened around the time this started? For example, did you receive and update or upgrade? Make significant changes?

    Basics: As we know nothing about your system, please..

    1. First check your disk(s):
    Download and run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) (includes SSDs) (portable version)
    (This gives exceptionally good text comments)
    Download Portable Hard Disk Sentinel Professional 5.30 / 5.30.3 Beta
    Post a screenshot of its GUI using the Insert Image icon above your post.
    If that doesn't work for you try HD Tune (portable) - Health and Error Scan tabs
    Download Portable HD Tune 2.55

    If all disks are reported as good, continue.

    2. Now check your file system:

    From an admin command or powershell prompt
    [Windows key + X, click command prompt (admin)]
    chkdsk C: /F
    Your PC will need to restart.
    Post back the result, which you can get after a restart as follows:
    Read Chkdsk Log in Event Viewer in Windows 10 | Tutorials
    or
    How to read Event Viewer log for Chkdsk in Windows 10 [Tip] | dotTech

    Possible repairs:
    Options that come to mind are
    Tweaking.com's free repair tool
    An in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.
    - but please first run through the steps above.

    Thanks dalchina for quick replay,
    just before apply your suggestions I let you know the os conditions:

    W10 pro
    version: 1803
    installation date: 20/05/2018
    os build: 17134.407
    Windows update worked the last two monts.

    I let you know the results after applying your suggestions (I have been a couple of years at Marconi Company ltd many many years ago..) but I do not know wether it is safe to make an image from the system that cannot be in good health.

    Regards
    ondapiana.

    Hi, used to work for Plessey/GPT/Marconi..

    It's not a question of creating a disk image now- except as a possible backup- but whether you have been in the habit up 'til now of routinely creating disk images.

    If you had an image created before this occurred, you could restore your system from it. That's the whole point- being prepared for anything from a failed upgrade, unbootable system, ransomware, user mistake... etc..

    That you are using 1803 is significant should you perform an in-place upgrade repair install, as you would need an 1803 iso - freely downloadable if you haven't one.

    From a Command Prompt, enter path. Post the results of that here please. For instance, mine looks like this:

    Code:
    path
    PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\Windows\System32;C:\Windows;C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\;D:\Tools;D:\x2;D:\X2\Macros;C:\rexxprogs;D:\Unixtools;D:\Systools;C:\Program Files (x86)\ObjREXX;C:\Program Files (x86)\ObjREXX\OODIALOG;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Windows Performance Toolkit\;C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\10\Microsoft Application Virtualization\Sequencer\;C:\WINDOWS\system32;C:\Users\ztruk\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps

    Path looks okay. I was hoping it was messed up somehow. After breaking it down into directories it looks like this:

    PATH=C:\ProgramData\Oracle\Java\javapath;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Oracle\Java\javapath;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;
    C:\WINDOWS\system32;
    C:\WINDOWS;
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShel l\v1.0\;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Autodesk Shared\;
    C:\MATLAB701\bin\win32;;
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\;
    C:\Program Files\Calibre2\;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\fet\bin;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\pcb\bin;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_1 6.0\tools\specctra\bin;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\PSpice;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\PSpice\Library;
    C:\ OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\Capture;
    C:\OrCAD\OrCAD_16.0\tools\bin;
    C:\Users\gt\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps

    The only one I might be suspicious of is the last one I highlighted and you have a double ;; after

    C:\MATLAB701\bin\win32;;

    but that shouldn't matter.

    just to let you know the story.

    I decided to reinitialize the os without deleting the personal files….A cuple of applications that had problems have been installed correctly and also printer facilities.

    I can manage some external HDs via USB ports but it is not possible to use USB pens ( 8 - 16 -64 MB). It is not possible to open the contents because the propriety is not correct. Nevertheless it is impossible to change permissions because looking on the proprietaries the Security Windows is not shown ( on the HD instead is shown).

    Of course the pens are easily readible in other computers….
    Very strange since the same USB port can manage only HD and not pens !!!

    The above operations have been done using the facilities of W10 in the same PC.

    What I suspect is something wrong with the security permissions of the system that were before the os repair and somethig remained after repair.

    I attach also a path scan, it seems to be correct…

    C:\WINDOWS\system32>path
    PATH=C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\iCLS Client\;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\iCLS Client\;
    C:\WINDOWS\system32;
    C:\WINDOWS;
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\Wbem;C:\WINDOWS\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\DAL;
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;
    C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Management Engine Components\IPT;
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\OpenSSH\;
    C:\Users\gt\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps

    Reiterate post #2

    The suggested repairs would address (hopefully) security/permissions issues.
    Tweaking.com offers a portable version (no installation needed).

    Please don't omit the chkdsk and disk check stages- no use building a house on sand.
