And now I have no internet, for no apparent reason.

The mere thought that I have actually paid money for this o.s. is killing me.

I am getting the same thing after rebooting my PC today to install updates!
My Service Host DCOM is using g 30+% of my CPU and when I click on any windows apps on the task bar nothing happens.
I cannot open edge, mail, or the windows menu and I get nothing when right clicking.
If I open chrome it just sits at a white screen with a page unresponsive showing.
Trying to uninstall silver light that was installed with the update today but that is just stuck on preparing to remove.
This update seriously has screwed my computer... Well done MS.

Doing a system restore back to March 11th but 8t is now sitting on a black screen with the cursor, HDD light is going however. Wow this update is a total joke, I would suggest to NOT update your PC today!

Well that didn't work... System restore encountered an error and it didn't work. However when my PC rebooted I could access the windows start menu briefly but once it was fully booted and running that access disappeared and it was back to the same crap. It appears something starts up and prevents access to that was included in the windows update. What a joke....

Just tried again, same thing but this time no access immediately upon hitting my desktop.

Look for something regarding cortana or some kind of store activation issue. I got this over and over again in segments when this was happening under windows logs > application > "Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed"

You can also try my registry reg I applied which I believe had fixed it at the time:Update your browser to use Google Drive - Drive Help I would backup your registry just in case before applying it. I had to sign in and out of my account after applying, but didnt have to restart my PC.

I was in your same position for months, I honestly thought it was never going to be fixed. Edge, photos, cortana, searchbar, start button, all did not work.

When my Start Menu was acting up, I did a repair install with an in-place upgrade.
Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade
Now, I actually did it with an Insider ISO, (going from general release to Insider with this procedure), and it fixed everything. The only thing is, then you're stuck on Insider until the next general release. In your case right now, the next general release, Creators Update, is due out next month, so you'd only be on Insider for a month or so. But, you can do the repair using the current general release ISO as well.
