PowerShell worked for me. But because there are many different causes of the same problem, it doesn't work for everybody.
In my case, not only did PowerShell not fix the start menu problem, the PowerShell "solution" had its own problem in that it would hang in the middle of execution. So that's just yet another problem. Perhaps if it had executed all the way through, it would indeed have solved the start menu problem.

Why is this still a problem thats not been officially addressed by MS?

I have had to keep running the powershell fix about once a week as was the only success i could find but now thats given up on me and no longer works.

This seems to be quite a big problem for a lot of people and thougnt would of had a proper fix by now :/

Actually, FWIW, they have addressed it, or at least started to address it...

Oh yes i guess so but was hoping for an update that corrected it rather then having to use these various hit n miss workarounds :)

Thanks for that link though id not seen that troubleshooter

This is what the start menu scan said.

Is this any easier to fix then the workarounds or just part of the same problem?

I'll tell you what I did when my Start Button stopped working: I did a repair install using an in-place upgrade. Worked like a charm, and the problem never returned. :)

And there is the rub. in fact that advice on the MS site as linked above, has been around for a while.

The conclusion one comes to is that it is NOT a good idea to sign on permanently with a live MS account, but rather with a local administrator account and ONLY go live with a MS account when your really need to. This is by far the best way to isolate yourself from many of the causes of this highly frustrating problem.

I have found the same applies to "one drive" do not set one drive to start up automatically when your PC starts up. Go to one drive only when you require to update files or download files to the local one drive folder on your PC.

One drive tries to imitate "dropbox" and "box" but, does not work in the least bit as well as both of these .....

The Start menu troubleshooter only helps IF you are able to get the live MS account info to synchronise between MS and your local PC. IF that process does not complete, the trouble shooter is just about useless.

Then most of the advice seems to assume that the OS files etc have been corrupted but in my experience, very seldom is this the case. Indeed if it was so, you would NOT be able to create a new local account anyway.

I should mention, I use a local admin account, and NOT an MS account to login to my system.

Interestingly, after installing latest Windows 10 updates about 2 days ago, I have not had a recurrence of the start menu and Windows 10 native app issues. Both have issues have disappeared. It used to occur within literally a few minutes after reboot. But I'm cautiously optimistic and will way a couple of weeks before I give it a full pass. The recent update was KB3156421. The information says it's a security update. So I'm not sure why things seem to be working. Maybe some kind of side-effect or undescribed fix.
