Glad to have helped. Wasn't my idea, I read it somewhere after about 8 hours of searching through endless threads. Driving me crazy all these problems with win10! Now I'm off to sort out the next problem I've come across, will post a new thread.

    Start button

Start button is still working after update for Windows (KB3140742) Installed February 17th (knock on wood)
Notification center is in quiet hours though, also after a boot but I don't care as long as it works.

Too bad I destroyed my apps with the power shell script. Hopefully they come back after the next big update.

I have experienced this after messing with Windows services and packages via dism.
Undoing changes did bring the functionality back.

I have attached a batch file to reset all services (and optionally device drivers) to defaults.
Coupled with the solution posted above by flhthemi, should fix most cases.
Words in English are not enough to describe how thankful i am right now. This not only made the taskbar run, but the whole computer is now faster. And all the little visual glitches that aren't that big problem but are still annoying are now gon. Thank you from the bottom of my hearth.

P.S. sry for bad English + you have to run it as administrator even if you are from the admin user

Has anyone else tried unchecking the internet explorer 11 checkbox?
    Worked for me.
Control Panel, Programs, Turn Windows Tasks on or off
Ignore the warning that says it may cause things not to work, reboot when it prompts you, this will do some kind of update then upon reboot it's all fixed!

Worth a try, worked for me and is much easier than other methods I read.
Just tried, sadly no different for me....

I've been trying to do some of the suggested solutions on this page, but I have some additional problems which prevent me from doing so. E.g. I cannot start Powershell as an admin, not even with the solution suggested in the reply before me, because when I replaced CMD with Powershell in the right-click start "menu", it simply won't start and neither can I right click on anything in a folder or the taskbar itself with the exception of right-clicking on the start icon or right-clicking tray-icons like Dropbox. Also the start menu won't appear, neither does the search option, even Edge won't start (I'm using Chrome anyways). Some times the task bar freezes, but tray-icons like Dropbox will still show that it's updating something when it is updating something and remain normal when it's doing nothing. I can right-click the background, but neither the screen settings and the costumization will open. I can however still use Winkey+R and open stuff from there. But the main problem is, I cannot open anything as an admin, because right-clicking does not work.
    HI,
I am new at this, and hope this pertains to your issue. The only fix I have found is to create a new user account, then transfer your docs into the new user account and delete the old one.
I have found the only way I can fix this fast and easy, is to create a new user account.
This fixes the START KEY, as to allow you to left click on it to open.
If you right click on it, you get the old school windows option.
This has happen to me on my PC and others that I have worked on.
I hope this works for you as it does for me.

Win10 uses Edge. Win update seems to still be working. When you do it it prompts a reboot. While it's shutting down it does updates no problem without errors so I assume it's all good. Worth a try. I don't see why it would need to be checked when it's no longer used anyway. Perhaps it's a setting left that way in case you want to roll back to win7. I'm not sure how it all relates to the new task bar but I know it worked for me. Anyone else found it worked for them?
Did not work on one of the systems I have with the problem. I have just downloaded the MS v1511 ISO from TechBench and will try a repair-install next.

As a new member here, I stupidly trusted this .bat file. After it ran, I lost internet connectivity. My first thought was ransom-ware, but with no ability to get back here, I was stuck with a 'driver problem' on my wifi adapter. I ended up doing a System Restore to 6 hours previous and thankfully it worked. Although on one hand I am angry, on the other hand I am relieved to know the restore works. I had never used it in my life. The reason for this post is to warn everybody else to be careful. I should mention I have tried approx. 6 different fixes for the start button problem, none of which have helped. Thanks AveYo
