1809 not waking up display from sleep sometimes

I have a machine that has developed a peculiar issue only since going to 1809: occasionally when the display (Dell UltraSharp U2713HM) goes to sleep, it won't wake no matter what I do locally or remotely (via RDP or TeamViewer). It's interesting that the most recent patch (17763.168) includes this fix:

    • Addresses an issue that displays a black screen on some servers when waking a display from sleep.

But I'm still having the issue. At first I thought maybe it was the display going bad, but it's fine outside of Windows. Once it happens the only way I can get the display to come back is to power cycle the machine.

I have an Nvidia 1050 Ti card with the latest driver (417.22 from December 3rd). I checked the Nvidia site for firmware, since I know there was a DisplayPort 1.3/1.4 issue that could cause this a while back. But I ran their updater utility from June and it said I was current. I checked Dell's website for any firmware updates for the display, and there are none. The BIOS on the machine is current.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

I am having this same issue. I am running a new install if the second release of Windows 10 build 1809 on an Intel NUC8i7BEH using driver version 25.20.100.6471 and BIOS 0056. When the issue occurs I can VNC or Teamviewer on from another machine on the LAN but the monitor will not wake. If I look at my display properties it shows it running in 1024x768 rather than 3840x2160 that I run my Dell P2715Q at normally. I've tried all kinds of things but nothing works. The only way to resolve it is to shutdown the machine and power it back up.

Disable monitor sleep after setting and install a screensaver which you set to that value so your screen doesn't burn in. that's at least what I did for now until I figure out how to fix this.

You might check if , in fact it is powering on for a sec and shutting down. I am having a VERY similar problem ( and many others ! ) We rode this problem into the ground on another thread and NEVER solved it and believe me I tried everything. In the end I even did a in place repair upgrade to no avail. One thing I noticed on this thread. We are all using NVIDIA GTX vid cards ! Maybe a clue.

I don’t know if this will help this problem or if it’s been addressed on other threads but I’ve fixed it for my computer.

Turn off “Rapid Restart” in Power Options in the Control Panel.

Open Control Panel, then click “Veiw By Large Icons” then click on “Power Options” then “Change what the Power buttons do” then “change settings that are currently unavailable” then uncheck “Turn on fast startup”. Click “save changes” then close.

Then shut down your computer (don’t just restart) then should both start up normally (if not a bit slower although I haven’t noticed any change), and also wake from sleep normally.

    Hope that helped.
