    Laptop sometimes restarts when woken up from sleep.


    Hey everyone,

    I've had my Asus laptop (Windows 10, 7th gen i5, GTX 1060, 8GB ram and 256GB m.2 drive) for nearly 3 months now and I have a issue where I can put it to sleep but when woken up the screen stays black (not even backlight) and about 15 seconds later the laptop just restarts. This has like a 30% chance of happening, the rest of the time it works perfectly.


    It's been happening since I bought it but it didn't effect me because I usually shut down or hibernate but I've recently switched to putting it to sleep more so it's started to become an issue.


    All the drivers are up to date and so is the BIOS.


    Not really sure what's going on so I'm looking for some advice.

    1) The "My Computer" section displayed: Windows 8.1

    2) Please update the specs in the "My Compputer" section:

    Include PSU. cooler, case, peripherals and anything attached to the computer by wired or wireless (mouse, keyboard, headset, printer, xbox, USB wireless network card, etc.)

    It can be easy to miss BSOD when the settings are on automatically restart.
    The computer had a BSOD on Sat Dec 8 23:23:11.511 2018 (UTC - 6:00)
    The mini dump file bugcheck was 10E
    The logs displayed many BSOD.

    What is the age of the computer?
    What is the warranty status?



    1) Open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    4) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread

    5) chkdsk /r /v
    This command may take many hours to run so plan to run overnight.
    Run the command on all drives.

    Use the syntax: chkdsk /r /v C: or chkdsk /r /v D: changing the drive letter to the applicable drive

    6) Use the text and images in this link to find the chkdsk reports in the event viewer > copy and paste > notepad > post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

    6) Make sure that there is no over clocking while troubleshooting

    7) Download and install: Everything:
    voidtools

    8) Use everything to search for: PoW32kWatchdog-20181130-1719.dmp > zip > post a share link into the thread using one drive, drop box, or google drive

    c) Full error scan

    12) Run Memtest86 version 8.0

    Testing is not done by time but by passes.
    The more the passes the better the testing conditions.
    Test for 8 or more passes.
    A substantial portion of the testing can be performed overnight.
    The computer has 8 GB DDR4 RAM
    The testing takes approximately 1 - 2 hours / GB RAM
    Just one error is a test fail and testing can be aborted.
    Find a camera or smartphone camera to take a picture of the test result image > post an image into the thread using a share link
    In addition to posting an image also post the text report using a share link.

    13) For any BSOD:
    a) run the BETA log collector and post a new zip into the thread
    b) open file explorer > this PC > C: > in the right upper corner search for C:\windows\memory.dmp > if the file size is < 1.5 GB then zip and post a share link into the thread

    14) In the left lower corner search type: system or system control > open system control panel > on the left pane click advanced system settings
    a) > on the advanced tab under startup and recovery > click settings > post an image of the startup and recovery window into the thread.
    b) > on the advanced tab under performance > click on settings > on the performance options window > click on the advanced tab > under virtual memory > click on change > post an image of the virtual memory window into the thread

    15) Run Sea Tools for Windows: (all drives)

    The logs displayed problems with the drive.
    That seems very quick to develop a bad block.
    Will await for confirmation from the tests.

    Is this the code about harddisk2 having a bad block?

    In disk management disk 0 is my m.2 drive and disk 1 is my 2 terabyte mechanical drive. From you last 'code' about volume E I think the bad block might be in an external drive that I have which does have issues (could harddisk2 actually be the external drive?).

    It is sometimes hard to tell from the information displayed in the event viewer.
    The label method may vary in msinfo32 versus event viewer vs dxdiag.
    The most reliable method is to check each drive with chkdsk, HD Tune, and Sea Tools.
