    trouble with copy and paste

    Hi all,
I have copied a calendar jpg using the snipping tool and have previously used edit - draw board and inserted an ellipse or circle to signify special dates. Today it won't work. C&P works everywhere else but no more on that jpg nor any other jpg's on my comp. I can copy or cut but when I right click to paste, the menu box is slightly greyed out and no paste can be done. I did the ol' Dr google and tried the CMD - cmd /c “echo off | clip” Also did the SFC checker, deleted and reinstalled mouse and keyboard drivers but still zilch. Any clues gurus??

Does CTRL-V still work to paste a jpg file?
Do you mean you can use the context Copy, Paste on a txt file, for example, but not a jpg?

I understand you're saying the rt click paste is only greyed out if you've a jpg in the scratchpad buffer.

    Here:
Windows 10 - Paste greyed out in windows explorer - Microsoft Community

it was found Paste worked in Safe Mode but not otherwise. Please check if that's true in your case.
This suggests something in normal mode was conflicting with it.

Have you made any recent changes?

Could you try using a System Restore point, if any are available?

That's correct, I can copy/paste text or whatever on other documets using either mouse clicks or CTRL-C and CTRL-V

Correct, as above. The only time it's slightly lighter (greyed out) is on jpg's

    Nope, same in safe mode

Have you made any recent changes?

No, all normal, daily scans and such but nothing abnormal

Could you try using a System Restore point, if any are available?
Don't use it, it has always caused me problems in the past.

    Other approaches:

    1. I suggest you restore a recent disk image. I hope you use disk imaging routinely as we so often urge users to do - e.g. Macrium reflect (free) + external storage for disk image sets.

Using disk imaging gives you a second chance by allowing you to return to a previous working state without technical help.

    2. User profile or Windows?
Please try creating a new user for test purposes: do you then see the same problem when logged in as that user?

If you do, try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.

If not, compare what is running/starting up in the two cases.

    3. Check your Update History- has there been an update in the period of interest?

I have a vanilla Macrium back up on an external drive but ohhh, the pain of reinstalling all my "stuff". Last resort job, that!

Did that, same same. Nothing special running that shouldn't be.

Only one lately that could have caused any kerfuffle in the time frame is Adobe flash....I uninstalled it but no difference.

Unlikely that's relevant. Please try the other approaches in appropriate order.

    Dalchina,
thank you so much for your assistance.......I found the problem
I use Faststone image viewer and it recently updated to a newer version.
I've used it for years but as a wild guess I uninstalled it and went back to the previous version and walah!!
    All working again
    Thanks again

    Well done- certainly peculiar.

(The standard way of investigating context menu problems is to try disabling all added ones and see if you can identify the culprit. Maybe that might have worked here too.. the context menu added by FS Image viewer.

Tool to start with - Shellexview (free). )
