Can't Enable Fast Startup

There were notes in the tutorial on this, but perhaps they could have been made more prominent.

Open a Command Prompt (Admin). Use the command POWERCFG /HIBERNATE /ON or if you only want Fast Start up then use POWERCFG /HIBERNATE /TYPE REDUCED

Then open Control Panel's Power options and you'll be able to turn on Fast Start up.

Thank you very much, Bree. I knew you could disable hibernation, but I didn't know it had anything to do with Fast Startup. So, not only have I learned something new today, but I may have added a little more life to my SSD drive.

It's a form of hibernation, key parts of the system are saved to disk then reloaded at start up to save time.

There's little to be gained in Fast Startup if you have an SSD. Like you say, better off without it

May be if you load the makers utils it disables it as all mine are disabled and I have makers utils makes sense as your writing maybe 8gig to the drive everytime you shut down and likley no speed gains

Fast Startup feature, which utilizes hiberfil.sys, doesn’t work if you’ve turned off hibernation altogether using the Powercfg.exe /hibernate off command.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I checked power settings again and noticed that the fast startup box IS checked. I performed a full reset of Windows 10, which may have caused it. The startup time is still;; slower than I would expect. I've already disabled unnecessary startup apps. So I guess it's just the nature of Windows 10.
Although I like W10 in general, I sometimes entertain thoughts of getting a Mac But they're pretty pricey..

OK, guys. My observations are showing that startup is faster, especially since the recent reset. I'm going to declare the situation solved. Thanks for all the input and tutorials. Maybe someday I'll be a true geek rather than one in training.
