    Can't Enable Fast Startup

Hi, guys. I can't see a way to enable fast startup in my H
P laptop running W10 Home. I go to the power settings section (following instructions from the Internet). and there is no check box to enable fast startup. Any ideas? Thanks/

Dang, Mr. Ed! I was going to tell you how, but it seems Microsoft has messed it all up! Methinks you just discovered another Microsoft Bug!

Are you running Build 17763.134 (RTM) or are you running Insider Build 18282 or 18290?

I tried in 17763.134 and am now going to my Insider Build 18290 to see if it works on that one.

    Good tomorrow morning, Ethel.

I think Mr. Ed found a bug! I tried to set it up, but it can't be done in my RTM Build 17763.134.

    Click Start
type Control Panel (until it shows up in the search)
    launch control panel
    select Power Options
select Choose what the Power Buttons Do
click Change Settings that are Currently Unavailable
select (or unselect) Turn on Fast Startup

just did this in 17763.134 so works in some installations anyway

It didn't work on my installation, and I don't think it works in Mr. Ed's installation either.

I just booted to my Insider Build 18290 and it works as intended. So, it seems to be a bug for some of us.

BTW, since we're going to have to do without the Control Panel and will have to contend with Settings one of these days, I've learned (for the most part) to use Settings :

    Launch Settings
    Select System
    Select Power & Sleep
    Select Additional Power Settings
select Choose what the Power Buttons Do
click Change Settings that are Currently Unavailable
select (or deselect) Turn on Fast Startup

No, not a bug. If hibernation is disabled you cannot turn on Fast Start up, the option doesn't appear in the control panel. I've tested this in 1809, 17763.134. It works the same way in 1803.

There were notes in the tutorial on this, but perhaps they could have been made more prominent.

Fast startup requires that hibernate be enabled. If you only want to use fast startup and don't plan on using hibernate, then you can specify the hiberfile type as reduced to significantly reduce the size of the hiberfile (C:\hiberfil.sys) to about half of its full size.

If you disable hibernate, then it will also disable fast startup.
Open a Command Prompt (Admin). Use the command POWERCFG /HIBERNATE /ON or if you only want Fast Start up then use POWERCFG /HIBERNATE /TYPE REDUCED

Then open Control Panel's Power options and you'll be able to turn on Fast Start up.

It wasn't disabled on my SSD, Samuria. I turned it off using on my Production (1809) partition last night, and am going to turn it off on my Insider partition now.
