How to set different values for screen timeout and screen lock?

I want to assign different values to screen timeout and to screen lock.

i.e. I want the screen to timeout after 10 minutes but activate the screen lock after 1 hour.

Right now I do not see an option to do so. You can only make it lock at the same time it timeouts, or not at all.

Maybe an app can do it?

    Hello @dictum,

You could use an option in the tutorial below to set when you want to have the display turn off when inactive.

...and use an available option in the tutorial below to set when you want the computer to automatically lock when inactive.

I will try option 2, and see if I can accomplish this in Registry.
I don't have pro or Enterprise editions, thus cannot do this, exactly what I need to do.
I hate it how they turned off so many features in the basic Win10, requiring Win10 Pro purchase.

Yeah, you will be able to use option 2 to set it in the registry instead. You'll of course have to restart the computer to apply afterwards though.

I used the registry mod option and it worked nicely. Thank you. That was precisely what I was looking for.

I think Windows should have it by default - give you the option of providing these 2 values. If you set your screen saver to say 2 minutes, you do not want to enter your password every 2 minutes. Especially if you have a long, complicated password.
So one value for screen saver and another for the actual screen lock.
Of course if you hit Win-L it triggers the lock overriding the values.

I think this should be in the FAQ, Well, which it is.

    You're most welcome.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a lock screen time out setting in Settings for it to make it easier to use.

Let's go back to this.. no, it did not work. Meaning now the screen locks turns on but not at an arbitrary number I set it to, like 10 minutes (600 seconds) but exactly when the screen saver turns on, the screen lock turns on at the same time.
There is no delay between the two.

The value that I set in the registry, here,

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System\InactivityTimeoutSecs =600
    is ignored.

You would want to set your lock screen set to 3600 seconds for one hour instead of 600 for ten minutes. This would be why it's the same as your screen saver.

I tried 1 minute for screensaver and a larger value for the registry value above. It does not have any effect. If the screensaver is set to 2 minutes, it locks at 2 minutes. I tried 3600 for the Registry value. It has no effect.
