Advantages over Windows 7?

I've been using it for a few days now, well, actually, getting rid of what I can and trying to figure out how to get rid of the other. But the main reason I like it is the sound drivers don't introduce the latency experienced in win 8.1. I can actually use my amp modelers without having to custom install asio drivers, and that's cool. I do want to do a clean install with a complete hd format and have made the necessary win10 boot and backed up everything. I'm just not sure if I'm up to the hassle yet; nothing ever goes as planned with MS.

Windows 10 is not ready for prime time. Do yourself a favour and go back to Windows 7. It will be better to get a new machine with 10 on. 10 phones home everything you do as an opt in. You can opt out . Basically 10 is a slightly more polished turd than 8.1 was. More of the same privacy issues. I tried it out and returned back to 8.1.
I installed 10 on a decidedly obsolete machine yesterday. It's a P4 3.0 GHz with a single gigabyte of RAM and a 20 GB IDE Hard Disk. Now I'm going to use Insider Builds on it, and I'm plugging through some activation issues right now, but that aside. It is astounding how fast it runs on this old clunker. It boots to the logon screen in eight seconds. Then the login time takes maybe another seven seconds at the most. Unbelievable! I can't get over it. Also, getting around the OS is relatively quick. Edge and IE 11 are both fairly brisk, but I have to say that IE 11 fares a touch better.

But I'd be inclined to agree that the aesthetics aren't for me. Those caption buttons are gawd-ugly and way too spread out, and how about some colour on those title bars? I'm not big on the revamped Start Menu either, but again, I'm just wanting to see where they go with it. I'm not quite sure it's a "turd" however.

I have 10 installed on 2 pc's and a small laptop and in all three cases it runs just fine. If you don't like 10 don't use it. After all it didn't cost you anything. I didn't like 8 so I kept with 7. There is no product out there that can satisfy everyone. I agree with Jody that the aesthetics leave something to be desired, but hopefully that will improve with time. BTW my stock portfolio worked out for me about as well as my LOTO retirement plan.

W10 (and the W8 series) don't really shutdown like older versions of Windows.
It uses some sort of hybrid hibernation-shutdown.

Brink has created a tutorial that shows you how to get rid of the "Diamond White" Titlebars.

Yeah windows since 8 uses hybrid shutdown, which is just as good as regular shut down except that it allows a reboot in seconds

A Real Shutdown purges everything, who knows what survives a Hybrid Shutdown.

If you waited for any new OS to be "ready for prime time" you would never have a new version of any OS. All new OS's will have bugs. /Fact. As for the rest of your post it's just a personal preference thing.. and for me and other WIn10 is not a "polished turd".

If fast boot works well on your system, it's definitely a reason to upgrade,
Windows 8.1 boots in 10 seconds in my laptop, just like W10.

And I don't even use an SSD or have a very powerful laptop.

So, this is not a reason to upgrade.

Come on guys- ya can't be that gullible. Microsoft is trying to get a piece of the mobile/smartphone market. If they can hook you on their bells and whistles show PC market you will be ripe for Win smartphones. Nothing wrong with their ploy but quit peeing down my leg and say it's raining

I upgraded from 7 Ultimate to 10 Pro. At first is was slower, and seemed buggy, but after this past week, it's been nothing but heaven. Super fast boots, very quick interaction with any and all menus, browsers all around seem faster to load/use, and just an overall feeling like I have new laptop. This is all on a seven year old Inspiron with very basic specs. I'm very happy with 10, and will never go back to 7.
