Programs and features should still work and you can lower UAC without much risk so it doesn't ask you for permission all the time. Have you made whole disk/system backup ? That's best insurance policy. I'd suggest Macrium reflect for that.

I have always used "Never notify" myself, can't be bothered to have to answer questions for something i would do anyway. That is pretty archaic form of defense, any malware makers already know how to circumvent it.
Backups I do regularly at least once a week or before new build is coming and before making some big changes. If anything goes wrong, I'm back in business in 15 minutes or less.
One backup I make and keep immediately after first installation and others I just update.

There are ways to completely disable UAC but this way it still works but doesn't bother you every time you want to run something. If you know what you want to run or install, I don't see a need to be reminded all the time.
