You have received some excellent advice above. Did you check these aspects:

    1. Run sfc /scannow and chkdsk /f
    2. Run the PC in Safe Mode (minimal drives loaded)
    3. Install & run Autoruns to check what third party startup items, drivers, services etc are loading. Disable any you don't need.
    4. Install & run CPUID Hwmonitor to check for overheating

If you still have problems I'd be inclined to backup your system & data (use Macrium Reflect Free) and do a clean install leaving Windows 10 to select the drivers. I would stay with v1803 due to all the current problems with v1809. You can get the ISO file for older versions of Windows here https://heidoc.net/joomla/technology...-download-tool

When the hardware and driver are uninstalled the listing usually disappears from device manager and there usually is a prompt to reboot to completely remove the driver.
Was there are prompt for reboot or was the driver reinstalled before the reboot?
Perform the step again deleting the hardware and driver and then look for the device hardware ID and post an image into the thread.
I did not tell you part of what I did that I felt was of no value. But it answers your question.

My experience really working this deep with Windows is years old, and so wasn't sure if Win 10 worked the same. Yes, it disappeared in the devices window and I got the reboot message. So I wasn't sure if it was really gone w/o the reboot, so I did reboot. As expected, during the reboot Windows discovered the hardware and reinstalled. So I removed it again and installed from the freshly downloaded drivers...which were the same version as what was installed.

Given that explanation, I don't expect it necessary to go through it again and paste here. But if you reply back you still want me to, I'll do that. You are putting a lot of effort into supporting me and I want to cooperate ;-)

Do not reinstall the driver and use the Microsoft default driver.
Restart Windows driver verifier with all non-Microsoft drivers checked.
If there is a BSOD then post a BETA log collector zip and memory dump into the thread.
So, given my explanation above, and having experienced the fact that the device comes back on a reboot, would it not make any difference whether I install it from the new install files? It would install when I reboot to get Verifier going.

But...I am going to follow your request and post back. JFYI...I'm becoming of the notion that the only thing problematic is in fact this one driver, which it appears to me I would have to reinstall windows to replace it. I seem to recall from my old days that there is a way to get booted up and replace those types of drivers, but don't recall how, or know if it's even possible in Windows 10.

STEVE, I'll post some replies in Blue in your comments below.

I actually already have Macrium on and a backup. I am thinking I may need to reinstall windows if I can't find a way to replace that driver. It seems to me on the older versions there was a way to have Windows recovery do a 'repair' and replace the Windows drivers w/o losing your apps/data, but I see that certainly is not available here. I'm leaving this option for the last resort (May be close to that time now).
For now, I'm going to do the device uninstall requested above. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. I did one thing different just now: I clicked the option to delete the drivers associated with the device. I'm not sure what will happen on reboot this time.

    Interesting things...

First off, when I got rebooted, I opened Device Manager, and found a Microsoft Keyboard driver in place of the offending one:

I pushed PRTSC, and I presume coincidentally, I goat a BSOD. I doubt that hitting the PRTSC caused it. Running Bluescreenview, I see the following:
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
    Attachment 218850

I'm going to disable my Nordvpn app and will try again. But, below is the infor for this current BSOD.

Here is the link to the memory.dmp file-> LINK

Here is the link to the log file-> LINK

So, in the meantime, I am going to disable Nordvpn, and run the test. If it does not BSOD fairly quickly, I'm going to enable Nordvpn and see if it BSODs again.

    Interesting again.

So I have disabled Nordvpn from running on startup. However the 'offending driver' does still load. But I do not get a BSOD (so far anyway) unless I load the app and have it connect to a VPN server. When I do that, it always BSODs.

My sumptoms tha started me down this path were freezes which would NOT stay frozen...would last maybe 30 seconds. Made it like the CPU was taken over by something.

And the other symptom was that I woud occasionally find the computer had rebooted.

So right now, I am running with the driver loaded, but the app not running, and I have verifier running in the mode requested earlier.

BTW...I did try downloading a new driver from Nordvpn...but it installed the same version, and it still failed.

If I get another BSOD pointing to that driver, I will uninstall Nordvpn altogether, and run the test again.

Will be interesting to see what you find in the last BSOD I loaded above.

BTW...I find it interesting that the app also is saying ntoskrnl.exe is an offender.

    Update from this end...

Since I disabled Nordvpn I have had no BSODS.

I decided to try to put back hpqkbfiltr64.sys by installing the HP drivers. But, I am finding that installing the Synaptics drivers are not putting that driver there. They are installing under Mice.

I installed HP Keyboard drivers, and have not had that driver show up. It continues to use the Microsoft driver that appeared earlier. I don't know if this will be a concern for general use of the computer or not.

So, right now, I have all 19 tests running (no sluggishness), against all non-Microsoft drivers, and am not getting BSODs. I'll set it aside and let it run and see what happens.

I am presuming that once you are able to look at the dmp file, you will find the Nordvpn driver being a culprit. I'm not sure what to think about ntoskrnl.exe also being listed in that Bluescreenview program. Going to ignore it for now.

Maybe it's fixed, albeit with no VPN service. We'll see.

I've done the installs you requested, and rebooted.

There are 4 items under keyboards. Don't know which one you want, but will do all 4 in order listed in this window:

    First:

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png

    Second:

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png

    Third One:

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png

    Fourth One:

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png
PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?-image.png

    ...

With this done, in the meantime, I will load verifier with Nordvpn running and see what happens. Will watch for any other input from you.

tapnordvpn.sys gave BSOD again. I'll post memory.dmp and logs if you want.

After any BSOD please post a new BETA zip and memory dump.
Were you able to uninstall and reinstall the software related to the vpn?

Run HP support assistant to update any drivers.
    Run Windows updates.

Open device manager > expand keyboards > right click > left click properties > on the driver tab click driver details > does it display HPqKbFltr.sys?
With windows driver verifier has this driver been checked?
    Has it stopped producing BSOD?
