    Been running Verifier, finally another BSOD...different reason


    I started running the verifier, and just continuing to work as normal. Shutdown when finished, etc.

    Still seeing the occasional WHEA error in the event viewer.

    Seems in the end everybody says my errors are driver problems. But I am definitely up to date on drivers, unless a new one has come out in past two days. I'll check after creating the files to upload. It certainly doesn't seem all that improbable that drivers would have bugs.

    But I do keep seeing reference to "Hardware error". Info from Event viewer. ON this one and others I've seen reference to Intel Video drivers.

    If I come up with something that definitely points to a hardware problem, I will call HP again. I am tempted to do that anyway. Don't want to wait too long. In actuality it has now lapsed from warranty with them, although it was sent in on this problem once. So I'd try to submit that it should be covered.

    1) The latest BSOD was using Windows driver verifier.
    2) The misbehaving driver were the Intel GPU drivers: Igdkmd64.sys IGFX

    3) The Intel GPU drivers were involved in prior BSOD.
    See posts: 48, 77 and 140.

    4) If you are able to, perform a clean install, and install all new drivers using the HP website followed by Windows updates.
    Then download and install the Intel driver and support assistant.

    5) Once all of the drivers are up to date and confirmed by the HP support assistant and the Intel support assistant perform hardware tests:

    I have actually gone through that process once, albeit not saying so specifically in that order. When I got the PC back from HP, I considered that a clean install, and went through all the driver processes, and started testing.

    It feels like I'm just doing a lot of work and not really getting any resolution.

    I really appreciate all of your help, but I'm ready to toss in the towel for the moment. Just testing and testing, and not really resolving anything. Not having specifically identified hardware, I think it is bugs in the drivers.

    Before going through all that again, I think I'll post back in the Intel support forum and see what they have to say. I'll post back what results.

    Performing the clean install yourself allows you to confirm what was and was not done.
    If you perform a clean install and then install the best tested drivers and the corrected hardware error still appears you will then know that the problem was not fixed with a clean install and the most up to date drivers.

    Then you can recontact both HP and Intel with this information.

    The question is do you ignore the corrected hardware errors or do you troubleshoot the hardware that appears in the corrected hardware error?
    If you ignore the corrected hardware error and if there is a hardware malfunction related to this part what happens in the future?

    As long as the computer does not BSOD and has no freezing or other problems then you can live with the event viewer reporting the finding.
    If it is under warranty it would be best to have a computer that does not have WHEA corrected hardware errors.

    The Intel GPU has been a recurrent misbehaving driver.
    So it should be tested for stability/instability.


    There was another kernel memory dump on 1/29/2019.
    It was nearly 2 GB.
