    My new computer has insomnia

I just got a new HP Z2 Mini G4 computer. Everything works fine so far except when I shut it down. The power light turns off and then about a minute later, it turns back on and the system restarts. I checked the network adapters and turned off "Wake on Lan". I have turned off "Fast Startup" as well. I saw no strange messages in the Event Log. The BIOS version is only one short of the latest. The latest one only referred to updates to add support for Linux BIOS tools. I am at a loss as to what may be causing it to reboot.

Press the Windows key + X choose Power Options. click the Additional Power Settings link on the left. click the Choose what the Power Buttons do link on the left side. click the Change Settings that are currently unavailable link at the top. Here uncheck Fast Startup and Hibernate. Save Changes

I don't know if it will show anything but the next time it happens, open a Elevated Command Prompt and enter powercfg /lastwake, see if that tells you anything.

Edit: Are you doing a Shutdown from the Start Menu or using the power button?

    Spunk,

I have Fast Startup and Hibernate shut off.

    Ztruker,

I have a desktop shortcut that I use (Shutdown.exe /s). I also have Fast Startup shut off so I could use the Start Menu power button shutdown as well.

I tried the powercfg /lastwake. I ran it just before I shut it down and it gave me:
    Wake History Count - 1
    Wake History [0]
    Wake Source Count - 0

I shut it down and after about 50 seconds it turned on again. The only thing it gave me then was:
    Wake History Count - 0

To stop it I am resorting to unplugging it right after I execute shutdown. I am getting a lot of these warning errors in the logs:

"attempt to initialize before setup - empty class registry, bailing out"
Source is "NVWMI", Task Category: (16)

These occur after I start and can happen many times when the system is running. The only log message that occurs when I shut it down is "WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped" which may be ok.

Try using a dummy account and see if it happens, too?

Have you tried disconnecting everything except the mouse and keyboard (Ethernet, any USB cables or devices, single monitor)?

Have you tried running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI? The Users manual tells you how on page 26.

I was on the phone with HP this morning about another issue and brought this problem up. She had me go into the BIOS and disable "Wake on LAN" there. That did the trick. Thanks for your help.

That was the next thing I was going to ask you to try

Glad it's fixed. That kind of behavior can drive you nuts.
