I wanted to install Office 2003 since it is the one that I own.

Now I think I will settle if I can get Open Office to work.

Do you have the original Office 2003 on disc, did you purchase it through the Microsoft Store and do you know the 25 character product key?
--- I can look up information on those questions but it makes a difference on what to look up.
--- Since you own 2003, it should be worth finding out what to do.

Please verify: Are you on Windows 7 or Windows 10?
--- If you are on Windows 10, how did you upgrade from Windows 7?

Post 39 "According to Microsoft I need the 64 bit version of Office. I did NOT even there is such a thing."
--- I just wanted to include this information in case I pursue an answer for you.

Naturally you can use Open Office or LibreOffice if you wish.

I have a Microsoft Office 2000 that was still using when I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10.
--- I just experimented on re-installing Microsoft Office 2000 and it installed and ran ok which is what I expected.
--- Running ok though is just that as there were some things it didn't do anymore as it's so far out of date but I did expect that also and it makes sense to me along with some incompatibility issues.
--- Naturally I'm going to uninstall it because I'm using Office Home and Student 2016.

With that said, if you want to try to continue with Office 2003 you might want to try this
    Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) download
Download Office 2003 Service Pack 3 (SP3) from Official Microsoft Download Center
--- As far as I know, Office 2003 Extended support ended on April 8, 2014.
    Supported OS
Windows 2000 Service Pack 3, Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1, Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2
    --- Makes sense
--- It probably ran OK when you were on Windows 7 since there was a Microsoft Compatibility utility available back then but that has also been ended from Microsoft support.

Any way you can try your Office 2003 one more time or the other office programs.
--- In my case I went with Office Home and Student as mentioned but as single user one time payment.

I was told I could install any of the free Office programs if :
I went into Windows/system32 and changed the name of mscoree.dll to mscoreebak.dll

That sounds good, but I was not allowed to make that change of names.
It did NOT give me any options to make the change of names.
    WOE is me!!!

I installed LibreOffice (64bit or 32bit) without any problem, there is no need to change files or files name to to that.

What do you want to install?

Roy111 that is great for you, but every and I do mean EVERY Office I have tried to install I get that (SOB) Error 1935. I don't know why I get that but I do and I have no idea how fix it so that don't get it.

I have probably got that PC so screwed up by now, it is a wonder anything works.

Yes, after using something like CC Cleaner or another program uninstall program, Try to get rid of all your attempts to install any and all Office programs, you should try to repair your computer with a repair install using the latest Install media from Media Creation Tool. then attempt the Office 2003 install again Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade | Tutorials
You also might want to upgrade your office to at least 2010 and 2013 work great on all my windows 10 machines.

Just for the record, Office 2010 was the first to be available as either 32-bit or 64-bit. There were some issues when installing the 64-bit version with parts of the 32-bit still installed, I had to remove FrontPage 2003 for compatibility reasons. I am using Office 2000 on a couple of computers, haven't had any unusual issues but then I don't think I'd try using the Outlook that came with Office 2000, mostly on grounds of how it interacts with the latest Windows.

The only things LibreOffice 32-bit or 64-bit doesn't have is an included E-Mail Client [several good free ones available] and a comparable program to Publisher but still has more than other free office-type suites.
