Hi, thank you very much for the reply. Sorry I do not know much about Linux.
This can help you download your choice of Linux LinuxLive USB Creator and make bootable USB drive.

I that rectangle you would see many kinds of Linux. I'd suggest ZorinOS which is very similar to Windows and easy to use.
So just insert an USB stick, chose that Linux and let program make BOOT drive. Then you BOOT with it and use any way you want without a risk to other drives and files.
If you want, you can do it on a small, cheap USB drive as it can be useful for many things later on.

Hi, I got the USB Cable, USB3 to SSD/2.5-inch SATA HDD Adapter.
I connected the old 2.5 inch HDD from Windows Vista computer and it showed the folders. Refer screen shots.
I can open folders but one problem I want Documents/Pictures folder to be opened if I can for that I tried User folder (marked in the image in red User on the right below on the top of image I un-hide folders).
When I want to open Users folder it says
You do not have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to get permanent access to this folder.
If I click then a wheel keep moving and could not open it.
I wonder if there is a way to open this User folder or how could I locate my Documents/Pictures folders any
    idea or suggestions?
    Thank you

Did you get a error message that the folder couldn't be opened? I just tried it with a HDD from a old computer and it worked. It did take a few minutes before the folder opened.

Hi, thank you for the reply. No, I did not get any error messages. Could it be I am trying on Windows 10?

"You Don't Currently Have Permission to Access This Folder"
    Or should make changes in
    Gain Access by Allowing Everyone.
Change the Ownership of the File/Folder.
What do you think. If I proceed for that would it be better to copy the User folder
    and make necessary changes?
Or if there is another way please suggest and oblige.
    Thank you.

I'm on Windows 10 and it worked for me. I have done the same thing on older versions of Windows and the folders have always opened. Did you see a progress bar at the top of File Explorer? I watched the progress bar and as soon as it got to the end my user folder opened. After that all the folders in my user folder opened. If you have a lot of files it may take awhile before it opens.

I just reread post #1. I wonder if there is a problem with the HDD that caused the old laptop not to boot.

I'd ask the same question. I have been working with a Seagate 1TB 3.5" HDD in recovering data that works in a USB Dock and allows copying files to another drive. It won't boot Windows and the SeaTools doesn't properly recognize it. The 2-drive dock I use [Eaxer] has a clone feature when NOT connected to a computer and it fails, apparently can't recognize the Source drive. The computer the drive came out of works fine with a different drive, installed Win10 on a 250GB to verify then cloned that drive to a spare 1TB HDD and that works, created a 250GB partition then I partitioned the remainder.

The Eaxer dock is quite useful, accepts 2 x 2.5" or 3.5" drives or a mix, is USB 3 and has 3 USB ports on the front as a Hub. The cloning feature without being connected to a computer allows starting the clone without interfering with other operations.

    Hi, thank you for reply.
No there is not a problem except I guess on older computer computer did not boot only that.
As you said about progress bar I think a green bar on the top take time to finish and during that a wheel moves.
Yes there are many files. I will try again and wait.
    Thank you

Hi, thank you very much for co-operation extended by you guys here.
It would have not been possible without your support to back-up data from older HDD by using USB 3 .0 to 2.5 inch SATA HDD Adapter.
Those who have helped me in any way thank you once again.
