Can I retrieve data from old computer Hard Drive?

No -- just as is -- plug the sata end to the sata interface and usb into computer. Don't disassemble the HDD -- OK it doesn't look nice and smart out of a case but who cares -- it will work fine.

The cable is fine. One advantage to using an enclosure instead of a cable though is that if the hard drive proves to be good, you can continue to use it as an external storage drive. Using the cable only is more of an occasional use thing and is not well suited to using the hard drive repeatedly.

I've upgraded about 6 computers from HDDs to SSDs. Now all those HHDs are in enclosures (about $15 US for a good one) and they all have backup images of the upgraded computers

They are also great if you want to play with live Linux or Android x86. Much faster than USB flash drives!

As mentioned don't take the drive apart. The case you posted should work fine. Make sure the pins on the HDD are lined up with the connectors in the case and carefully slide the drive all the way in. When you plug the USB cable into the computer the drive should be automatically recognized and assigned a drive letter. If the drive doen't show in File Explorer post back and we can tell you how to assign a drive letter to it.

Hi, I got the USB Cable, USB3 to SSD/2.5-inch SATA HDD Adapter.
I connected the old 2.5 inch HDD from Windows Vista computer and it showed the folders. Refer screen shots.
I can open folders but one problem I want Documents/Pictures folder to be opened if I can for that I tried User folder (marked in the image in red User on the right below on the top of image I un-hide folders).
When I want to open Users folder it says
You do not have permission to access this folder. Click Continue to get permanent access to this folder.
If I click then a wheel keep moving and could not open it.
I wonder if there is a way to open this User folder or how could I locate my Documents/Pictures folders any
idea or suggestions?
