What is the lib folder?
Hi,
I just noticed a folder called "lib" in Program Files (x86).
Is this folder a win 10 thing? What does it do?
Thanks,
Ed

I don't have a 'Program Files (x86)\Lib' folder on any of my Win10 PCs, so not a standard part of Win 10 by the looks of it.
What files (if any) does it contain? Their properties may have a manufacturer's name on the Details tab. If there are no files, the creation date of the Lib folder may give a clue. What else in the Program Files (x86) folder has the same creation date?
Thanks for the quick response. I found a txt file that mentions Oracle.
The lib folder contains about 10 sub folders and about 2 dozen files, mostly .jar files, whatever that is.
This...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JAR_(file_format)A JAR (Java ARchive) is a package file format typically used to aggregate many Java class files and associated metadata and resources (text, images, etc.) into one file for distribution.
OK, so what business does it have on my PC?
Did you install Java runtime environment? Perhaps for one of your browsers? That comes from Oracle.
OK, I found a Java 8 update 101 with the same date.
I don't recall that I had installed that. What is it good for?
Can I uninstall it?
