Empty folders disappearing

Hi again. I share the same feeling as everyone else. I never encountered or heard of such behavior, nor can I figure out what changed in my habits to induce such a thing.

I have not tried running sfc/scannow, and you guessed right, I will not mind!

I must go to sleep now, I will start the process when I wake up and post the result here asap.

I would like to thank you all for trying to figure out what is happening, especially since there are no real pointers to it.

No searching involved, I almost never use the search tool of Windows, since I know where each folder is.

The easiest folder to describe is the one for TV shows. Folders' names will have the last episode I watched plus some notation, e.g. this folder contains old files (for recap and/or to be deleted for space); this folder contains files not watched yet; I am keeping a copy of this TV show or few episodes on an external HDD (because I plan on re watching it/them again, so do not delete old files but know at a glance how the storage is used).
There is a sub folder for TV shows that are currently ongoing, a sub folder for shows pending, one for shows I finished (or at least there was all that).
Now other empty folders have disappeared from other categories, but at least you get an idea of one system I have been using.

When I watch something, it is easy to just rename a folder by slowly double clicking on it and changing a number (this is why the need to automate the process was never high. Still, I wanted to learn how to do it and I am doing it).

I'd try recreating your file structure in a totally different disk location. The problem is not global therefore if it follows you...well you're the problem! OK something you do or a program you're using is the problem.

Hi Andre Ten, I was just wondering if it is possible for Windows Defender or another antivirus program to do this, or
do they just place files in quarantine.
