No longer use program but thought there was an option that automatically deletes empty folders. Probably wrong though!
From what I read, I don't think it has that option (maybe an advanced search option that would allow to select empty folders). Then again, I never used it so I can't say.

In any case, thank you for your input.

No software like CCleaner. I did not even use Windows disk cleaner, only Windows' Disk Defragmenter.

Here is what happened this past 24 hours:

    I have this folder structure:

    _Parent.Folder
    |_Sub.Folder.1.empty
    |_Sub.Folder.2.empty
    |_Sub.Folder.3.empty
    |_Sub.Folder.4.not.empty
    |_File.1
    |_File.2
    |...
    |_File.n

yesterday I added some files into the parent folder (for example File.n+1)

Today, here is what I see:

    _Parent.Folder
    |_Sub.Folder.4.not.empty
    |_File.1
    |_File.2
    |...
    |_File.n
    |_File.n+1

3 Folders (I am sure they were there) disappeared. And a few disappeared from another folder, but I can't say exactly how much.

    Never heard of such behavior.

Is this global or just some folders in a specific location?

I think it is some folders in a specific location.

To be more precise, I only noticed this in one folder and its sub-folders. Then again, it is the only place where I really make use of empty folders.

I checked the rest of the hard drive and I found some empty folders, so it was not global.
I checked the OS drive (SSD) and the external HDD and they were fine.

Hi Everyone, I am no expert, but is it possible that under Settings,System,Storage,Storage Sense, that windows can
be automatically freeing up space if the setting is on.

I do not think so. The assistant toogle switch is on OFF.

I went through the available options, the only one 'activated' is something like "delete temp files not used by apps" (I do not have Windows in english).

Nice try though, at least I learned this exists (thank you).

Have to ask: how do you generate you empty folders? I'm guessing that it might be with some program? code? Could it be that this program is deleting some folders?

Other things to check: could the missing folders be somewhere else (moved or created in the wrong path)?

You can check for empty folders with some utilities: raymond.cc easily-removing-empty-directories-from-windows

    Empty folders disappearing

    Hi Umaro (again)

Like everyone else I'm baffled as to what could be causing this issue. I've given it some thought, and since you said this seems to be a recurring problem lately, it's possible some system files may have become corrupted.

Have you tried running 'sfc/scannow via an elevated command prompt ?

It takes a little time to run, but if it resolves your issue, I'm sure you won't mind that.

I generate them by hand, and rename them when needed by hand. I just started learning programming to automate the process, but I haven't used any script yet (still learning the basics).

I do not think I miss placed them. First I searched for them around (I thought the same as you), then I searched using explorer.exe research tool, as I knew a lot of the folder's names by heart.

Just to be sure, I used one of the tools you suggested. It shows many empty folders in the hard drive, but in the specific folder I am using, only 5 folders where found, the ones I created today.
