    Stop Cortana From Popping Up

Cortana continually pops up when I'm using the track pad on my Lenovo Ideapad. I usually use one finger to move the cursor and a second finger to click the left button. When I click Cortana pops up and the click does not execute. Then I have to click away to get Cortana to go away.

I've been through every setting on my track pad and nothing works. I've tried everything that I could find on this forum and the internet and nothing has worked.

I don't think I want to totally disable Cortana because then I can't search when I want. I just don't want it to pop up ever.

I'm about ready to ditch the laptop it is so bad.

You can disable Cortana and still have the search field. Option 2 for Home:
Enable or Disable Cortana in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials

As to why using your touchpad triggers Cortana- sorry, no idea- never heard of that before.

Thanks for the reply. I've actually tried option 2 before to disable Cortana. In fact the Disable_Cortana.reg file was still on my desktop. It seems to always work for awhile and then it gets reset. I haven't nailed down why that is the case. I just ran it again and it seems to have stopped Cortana from popping up. I've rebooted several times trying to see if it would reset...so far it is staying the disabled.

Just wondering, do you have 'Hey Cortana' disabled?

Curious- never bothers me. I don't see anything of Cortana. With 'Hey Cortana'off, background CPU usage is reduced (text indicates that helpfully). So Cortana should not be prompted to appear by any sounds as some report.

I use Classic/Open Shell as my start menu, so that also provides a search field. I have Cortana's (on the taskbar) hidden.
