    SurfaceGo - No Onscreen Keyboard

    Hi all,

I have a SurfaceGo without a physical keyboard , so the onscreen keyboard is of utmost importance.

Unfortunately the keyboard refuses to popup when I tab in a text box, also taping the onscreen keyboard icon on the taskbar triggers no response.

    Please advice

    Thanks

    Bo

Is the SurfaceGo new, or new to you? If not has it worked correctly before? If so, what has been done to it recently?
If it has a USB port you can connect a USB keyboard to it until you get this resolved, or to help you resolve it.

    No

    Yes it did

Changed Live password using my notebook. This crap started when the SufaceGo asked to refresh my OneDrive login.

If it has a USB port you can connect a USB keyboard to it until you get this resolved, or to help you resolve it.
Using Ease Of Access --> Keyboard --> Use On Screen Keyboard I can still force a keyboard to show up. So there is no need for external keyboard to solve this issue. The problem is I have no clue what to do to fix my issue.

Does it work in Tablet mode?

I've seen several threads where the user reset the tablet and the problem went away. You could try doing a reset and keeping all files.

Also, what about doing a System Restore to before this started happening?

    Thanks Trucker
It takes about half a day to do a decent backup , reset the system, and get windows set up they way I want. And Synchronizing my Live account easily takes a week to 10 days. So going that road is not an option for me.

I might be able to figure out the smart way to fix this, will certainly post the solution over here when I do.

The smart way to fix it is as Ztruker has stated. He is a expert in this area and knows what he is talking about. You also should always back the device up at least a week to month, depending on how you store the files and how much you use it.

I was wondering about the answer of "No" to your question about if it was new from the mfg or new to them.

    Hi Trucker,

The tablet does work, also in tablet mode. Think the screen is way too small for desktop mode. Problem is with the on-screen keyboard.

    Thanks Bro

I personally think reinstalling is not the smart way. I do have backups, make them weekly. But do not have an image.

Reinstalling might be inevitable , but for now that us not the solution I am looking for.

Sorry my answer was confusing. I meant the tablet is not brand new, bought it early Oct. It is also not new to me. I have tested it out, tinkered with it, and reset when I knew how I wanted to set it up. Ever since the last reset it has been running fine till this issue surfaced.

Last couple of days I restarted and shut down+started up my SurfaceGo several times. But the issue remained.

Last night I decided to shut her down for the whole night .. . . .. . and voila . . . the on screen keyboard is back and works like it did a few days ago.

I am not sure this is a coincidence or that shutting her down for the night really did the trick. But am happy it is resolved and hope the next time it happens the fix will be just as easy as it was now.

Thank you very much Trucker and Bro for looking into this and suggesting a way forward to solve the issue.
