Have to tap keyboard many times to wake after sleep.

I have a new HP EliteBook laptop running Windows 10. Peripheral USB keyboard and mouse. On my old Windows 7 EliteBook, I could just tap the space bar or move the mouse and the computer would wake. Now, on the new one, it only works if I tap the keyboard many times - I'd say somewhere between 10 and 20. If I tap it just once or a few times, nothing happens; it just stays asleep. The mouse and keyboard both have lights to indicate whether they're active. The light on the mouse is always on, even when the computer is sleeping. The light on the keyboard comes on corresponding to the computer waking (after 10 - 20 taps). Not sure if that's relevant, but just in case...

Hi kend0g187, and welcome to Ten forums.

Does this happen on laptop's keyboard too (or TouchPad)?

Could be you have some options in BIOS, where you can set which devices are allowed to wake laptop from sleep.

When I open the lid and set the computer to sleep, nothing will wake it except the power button - not the keyboard, trackpad, USB keyboard, or mouse. When the lid is closed, the USB keyboard will wake it, but only after 10-20 taps. There were a couple options in the BIOS that looked like they might help, but they didn't. Still the same behavior as before.

This command (powercfg) allows you to explore devices configured to wake your PC etc etc:

    E.g.
    POWERCFG /DEVICEQUERY wake_armed

Only certain devices will be able to wake your PC- exactly which depends on your manufacturer.
For example, I had expected the keyboard on mine to do so. Eventually the supplier advised me on a slightly older model it did, but on mine it wouldn't.

I'm going to guess that your repeat action on the keyboard causes the mouse to move. (Vibration)

Go to HP support site (drivers download) and search for System default settings for Windows 10. I can't provide direct link, since I don't know which version do you have (840, 850... ver G3, G4 etc.) Looks like this:
