Play movies from Computer to TV

This is my last question for the day.

My setup is like this VGA cord from computer with Windows 10 to monitor and HDMI cord from computer to TV.

I have watched several tutorials (not on this site, If there is one let me know). I have tried to follow the instructions, but I must be doing something wrong or my Windows 10 does NOT have the tools to make it happen.

I sure could use some help on this.

    Thanks a bunch.

Just drag the program you use to watch movies, over to the TV.

Use the built in program Z has suggested, or I personally use VLC Player.

    AddRAM

I am not sure exactly what you meant by just drag movie player from monitor to TV.

When I select my HDMI port on my TV, I can see the home screen just as it is on the monitor. I was surprised when there NO display option on the control panel. I can search for "Displays" and a screen comes up but it does NOT see both the monitor and TV. I think it should.

Again please explain what the drag comment was. I am not sure how to do this. Thank you.

If you press Windows key + P, do you get the projector side bar on the right side? You want to select the extend option. Then you can drag the movie player program over to the TV.

NavyCDR yes I get that popup and it defaulted to "Extend".

BTW are you a Navy CMD? I spent 12 yrs in the Navy as a Helicopter Pilot back on 60's and 70's.

By dragging to the TV, make sure the movie player is a window, not fullscreen. Then click and drag the Window sideways to the right or left and it will slide off the edge of the monitor onto the tv screen. It depends on your setup whether right or left direction is the right one.

does your tv have webos? if so yoiu should be able to install plex media server on you pc and then set it up on the tv. i have the server and player and can just navigate to plex on the tv and watch anything in my libraries.

HDMI cord to the TV would be the preferred solution, I hope you can get it to work with the advice being given.

However, there is an alternative for playing video files (mp4 etc.) direct to a network connected TV. My TV supports DLNA and has a WiFi connection to my network. I routinely play my video files on the TV by right-clicking on them and selecting 'Cast to Device'.

Cast to Device in Windows 10 is a rebranded and improved version of Play To Device that was used in previous version of Windows. Cast to Device is a feature that allows you to directly (wired or wirelessly) stream media from your PC or tablet to a Miracast or DLNA supported device (ex: TV or Xbox) on your home network.
