"let me in"... tried your advice, but still getting random freeze with win 10 home.. have tried everything I can think of but nothing works. It seems to happen more often with edge than explorer, The freeze lasts for about one or two minutes at the most, and nothing will unfreeze it, other than a complete re-start. my laptop is bang up to date with all the latest updates etc etc.
anybody got any idea how to cure this before I go mad. many thanks, john t Northumberland, England.

Ok. I has this similar problem since late last week, and finally managed to resolve it on Tuesday night. My story:

I downloaded the 64-bit Windows 10 Home upgrade on my newer Windows 8.1 Lenovo all in one desktop back in late September.

System has 6 gig RAM and a 1.0 TB rotating HD. I'm running McAfee Internet Security. No SSD, RAID Setup, external graphics card, no Acronis TrueImage, nothing of the sort. Straight outta the box OEM setup.

The Windows 10 automated download and upgrade procedure worked then without errors. I have been receiving automatic upgrade downloads, because some mornings my machine reboots overnight.

But I received an automatic overnight upgrade download on 12/3 and that's when the problems began. The mouse and keyboard would freeze every couple of minutes, but after 3-5 minutes I would get control back for another few minutes. The system was unusable. Even bringing up Task Manager or other system utils would freeze the same way.

I thought it may have been my older wireless MS keyboard and mouse I use. So I disconnected them, disconnected any USB drives I had connected, and re-connected my wired USB keyboard and mouse.

I checked system admin event log, and while there were some entries, nothing was being logged at any of the times the system was locking up.

I absolutely dreaded the prospect of working on a clean Win10 install, so I read through this entire thread several times and cobbled together the following approach:

    STEP 1
    I followed thread #9

    Press Windows key + X

    Click Command Prompt (Admin)

Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

When the procedures are complete exit the command prompt:
    Next, do the following:

Right click on the start button and click Command Prompt (admin) Click Yes

    Type: cleanmgr.exe

    Click OK

Nothing was detected out of the ordinary. I rebooted and ran these commands again. Again, nothing detected.

    STEP 2
I then checked the pagefile.sys file size. I changed my swap file size to 2,000 Mbyte (was originally 960Mbyte), and deselected the autofig box.

    STEP 3
I followed thread entry #68 and ran both of these driver update programs.

    4) Update all drivers, using free special software. Many of these programs are bad (e.g., DriverEasy) and show outdated drivers as up-to-date. I recommend free programs Driver Booster 2 and DriverMax (use both).

There were 14 drivers found that were deemed "very old" or very very old or something like that. I let it update everything it suggested.

I've rebooted and now it has been running two full days without any hangups (at least while I have been on it for several hours each night).

I don't know what step solved the problem, but I hasten to add that everything was working fine until last week. I changed no hardware or software configuration aside from the auto Windows 10 upgrades.

Hope this will help someone because this thread enabled me to get back to my work. Thanks to everyone who contributed!

    Cheers,
    Mark_Space

Yes I run Auslogics Driver updater it is not free but it keeps all my systems I look after up to date, have not had one freeze or crash since downloading and installing it.
Runs on the systems in the background, the only time I see it is when a driver is out of date, and it flashes up and lets me know it is installing a updated driver

I would use a video driver cleaner before updating an Nvidia or AMD driver.
Nvidia driver installer has a built-in video driver cleaner. Just ask it to perform a clean install. This is a better option than a third-party utility.

After a major Win10 (64) update yesterday, everything was fine until just now - my PC froze completely again within 5 minutes from launching. After the update I also had one Blue Screen (Page Fault In Nonpaged Area), but that was it until today.

I'm sure it's a Windows issue by now. My graphics card has the newest drivers, I get no artifacts at all, and it's not overheating either. I did all i could to get the newest drivers for everything; to no avail.

I'm no idea what to make of all this. My old laptop's Windows 10 (32) was completely stable and as glitchless as you could ask for...

Unfortunately, I always had trouble with Nvidia upgrading drivers, even running a clean install using there software in Windows 7. I have had to do complete OS install after nvidia hosed my system, twice. Finally I dumped Nvidia and changed to AMD and have not had any problems since. I like DDU, 3rd party program so much better (started using after switch), used on several Nvidia machines for friends and there machines did not have issues. But you can use what works for you.

No one can tell you without info... info which is completely lacking from your post. This is also not the correct thread for your question... please create a new thread and list more info.

    Thank you for replying :)

Here are my full specs in case it matters:
    OS: Windows 10 64bit
    Motherboard: Asus Z170 Pro Gaming
CPU: Intel Core i5 6600 Skylake
Graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked
    RAM: GEIL 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4
PSU: be quiet! Pure Power 630W
CPU cooling: be quiet! Pure Rock (tower cooler)
HDD: Seagate 3.5" 2TB SATA III
    No overclocking done.

Now, to my surprise, my graphics drivers actually were out of date. Updated them at about 10 PM. Since then my PC froze the same way again.
Twice.Thrice actually, it just happened again as I was about to edit.
And I wasn't playing. At first it happened as the drivers were updating (Nvidia's release notes don't mention either of these games. Also, add Euro Truck Sim 2 to them. It definitely happened with this one too.), and the sceond time I was just browsing in Chrome.

My event viewer shows Kernel-Power errrors under the Critical category.

I don't think there's something wrong with my Power Unit, if there was the PC would simply shut down completely or, quite literally, go out in flames, wouldn't it? Again, it's a 630W.

Error category shows EventLogs saying that the previous shutdown was unexpected and a few (usually 2 or three at a time) DeviceSetupManager errors with code 0x80070490 just before the freeze happens.

    Warnings:
    • 9 (nine) of these the second it froze:

    • Also:
    • Network list manager can't establish a connection with Internet
    • Can't connect to Windows Update service
    • Network list manager can't establish a connection with Internet
    • Can't connect to Windows Update service
    • Network list manager can't establish a connection with Internet
    • Can't establish a connection with metadata service and Internet Windows services (WMIS)

Is it possible that I made a mistake when connecting something to the motherboard?
Google is a great tool when utilized...

System relaunched without a clean shutdown previously. Possible causes: The system stopped responding or crashed or there was an unexpected loss of power.
    • This is exactly what it says it is... your system had a dirty shutdown.
      • If you reset/manually force shutdown a PC, once rebooted and back at the login screen, reboot the PC via the power options menu. This is important as a flag is applied to a system improperly shutdown (a shutdown/reboot is a complex process for the OS on the backend, and when a system has a dirty power down, the shutdown steps that must occur on the backend are unable to be performed, prompting the flag).

Kernel-PnP: The driver \Driver\AiChargerPlus failed to load for the device PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A12F&SUBSYS_86941043&REV_31\3&11583659&0&A0
    • Google: "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_A12F&SUBSYS_86941043&REV_31\3&11583659&0&A0" + "Kernel-PnP" + "AiChargerPlus"

Error category shows Event Logs with DeviceSetupManager error code 0x80070490
    • Google: "DeviceSetupManager" + "0x80070490"

Your issues appear to be 100% driver related... did you upgrade this PC to Win10 or did it come with Win10 preinstalled? If you upgraded, it's recommended to do a clean install and perform the proper clean install post-install steps in chronological order once you've verified in the Settings App Win 10 shows as activated

With all respect, I wouldn't bother with registering here if I found a solution on Google in the first place.

My post wasn't meant to be condescending... I apologize if it came across as such.

Your issue is definitely driver related, which is why I recommended googling what was in italics.
    • Using quotations [ " " ] ensures only results are returned that contain what's in quotations.
    • Using a space, plus sign, followed by another space [ + ] ensures only results are returned that contain all terms contained within quotations.

The purpose of the search isn't to find a solution, but to find the file(s) causing the problem(s).

When you clean installed, did you chronologically follow the following once the install was finished:

    Clean Install Procedure
    1. Drivers [there are more than just the 6 listed, however steps 1 - 6 must be installed first and in the order listed]
      • The PC must be rebooted after each driver install

      1. CPU Chipset Drivers [pulled from OEM site, must be installed regardless of what OS they originally built for]
      2. CPU IMEI Drivers [pulled from OEM site, must be installed regardless of what OS they originally built for]
      3. Intel RST Drivers (even if you don't use RAID, if your Intel CPU has integrated graphics, this must be installed)
      4. Any other CPU related drivers [such as thermal management, etc.]
      5. Integrated Graphics Drivers [CPU]
        • If OEM offers Windows 10 drivers, install these, then, once #6 is finished, install the latest drivers from Intel's site
      6. Graphics Drivers [GPU]
        • If OEM offers Windows 10 drivers, install these, then install the latest drivers from AMD/Nvidia's site
      7. All other drivers, following the driver install order set forth by the OEM
        • Picking up at #7 would be audio, network [LAN, WiFi, then BT], touchpad [if a laptop], etc.

    2. Windows Update [rebooting when instructed to do so, rechecking until no updates are found]
    3. Lastly, software and peripheral drivers [logitech drivers, etc.]

Ohh okay, that's a major misunderstanding on my part in this case.

Thanks a lot, I'll definitely follow this if I decide to reinstall!
What if I have a CD with a bunch of tools (also those required for Internet to work) that came with the motherboard? Should I install these first or should I get all the listed drivers using another machine and transfer them to my PC ?
