    Got new Win 10 Desktop

Well it is new to me. I guess I will spend the next week or so just learning to get around on it.

I know it has an SSD hard drive on which only Windows 10 is installed. It also has 1 TB hard drive that I want to partition into 3 drives That mean I will have to rename the DVD drive so that when the drive is partitioned, it will be named the way I want it named (keep fingers crossed, but no big deal.

I know there are certain things I prefer like IE instead of Edge and Windows explorer over File that comes in Windows 10..

My cousin who gave me the PC installed a few things for me and will need to learn to use those..

One thing I would like to know right now is: How to tell what version of Windows 10 I have??

    Thanks a bunch.

Hold down the "Windows" key + R and the Run Dialog box opens. Type in winver and hit or click OK. It will give you a pop up like this one:

Settings, search for About - will also give you the edition.

Note that there are bugs related to both builds 1803 and the (currently withdrawn) build 1809. You can read all about them in technical news articles, and this forum.

Coming from '7 you may prefer replacing the Start Menu with an excellent free one - Classic Shell (now Open Shell). That still lets you use Win 10's as well.

    Thank you for your reply.

Then what does it look like? Screenshot please!! Did you search in Settings for About? Maybe your different build will look different.

Use the snipping tool. Click on the Windows Orb (start menu) and start typing snip

    Not Edge Settings, Windows Settings.

Click on the Start Icon and just above should be the right Cog Icon. Or find it in the All Programs list just to the right.

Settings > System > Scroll down list to > About > scroll down right pane.
That will give you the version of Windows.

Similarly is the Snipping Tool is in the All Programs list.

Eventually you will know the things you want in those large Tiles part of the Start Menu. You right click those in All Programs and Pin to Start.
You can organise those tiles by dragging and dropping in to positions.

It will take you much longer than a week to work it all out, learn the new ways.

Ah-- now I see what you did.. because the first and 3rd para were separated I hadn't understood you were referring to Edge in the 1st para. Sorry.

MS is slowly moving Control Panel functions into the Settings dialogue. Each 6 monthly major build, something else changes- and maybe in between as well. So Settings started with new things, and old things are migrating to it. The Control Panel is still there, but sometimes something we know and love is left there for a time but no longer works. And in moving things to Settings, MS sometimes removes options we need: currently some difficulties related to setting default programs because of this.

    Ways to access Settings:
Windows key + X, click Settings
Windows key + S, Settings <Enter>, click Settings
Start Menu, click A, click S, click Settings

    - and if you use the excellent Classic Shell/Open Shell free start menu often recommended here - hey, it's just 1 click away! (Coming from Win 7 that will feel much more familiar - and you can still use Win 10's as well).
