Perhaps I will need to get back into classic shell. I really thought MS has worked all this out by now. Alas I probably should have known better. Too bad something this simple is still broken at this stage in the game.

If you type the name of exe file into the search box -- namely winword.exe -- it will come up properly every time. Or, as others have suggested you could create a shortcut and install that in your menu or the taskbar. Lots of ways to scratch this particular itch. Hope you find one that works for you!

I've had the same Issue trying to pull up Visual Studio Code by searching "visu" and the first thing it would show in top results was, "Optimize Visual Display", which I never used, ever.

At first I tried to have it indexed by searching for it about 50 times and opening it. This helped get it to the top SOMETIMES, but not enough. I needed it at the top every time with as few keystrokes as possible. I tried to rename the Program to a name that's alphabetically higher in order. That just caused glitches opening the Program, and didn't help the ranking, at all. I tried adding the program by left-clicking the desktop shortcut and hitting, "add to start menu". That didn't work, and it didn't even add the program to the start menu for me.

The Solution: I pinned the program to the start menu via left-clicking the desktop shortcut and selecting, "pin to start". After doing this, "Optimize Visual Display" didn't so much as show up in the search results and the program I wanted is always in the top result. Even after un-pinning it from the start menu.

Hope this helps anyone else with this issue!
