Win10 Copying Files With Wrong Date. Why? How to Fix?

Just copied some files from a micro sd card from a phone over onto a hard drive.

they arrived with the wrong date.

    2010 !

I'm having troubles with this computer. Is this further evidence I need to do a reinstall or something?

Sounds like a phone problem with how it is dating files. What does it show on the SD card when you mount it to look at the files on it?

Again, sounds like a phone problem. Check the files on the SD card in the phone, on another device. Check Howard Forum's to see if anyone else is having the same issues with that same phone device. Windows does not change the date on files, it only shows what it receives from a device for said files.

Windows knows multiple dates. Date, date modified, date taken etc. These are not the same. You may not think that date and date modified are identical. Date refers to your phone, as already be said.

"My Photos" in Windows ("C:\ ... \Photos\My Photos") is set to "Date".

"My Photos" on the USB drive ("J:\Photos\My Photos") is set to "Date Modified".

    Yes, I know.

The bottom picture is of the phone card in an adapter and into a usb slot on the computer.
Take pic 1023-211. It shows 23/10/2018 as 'date modified'.
That's actually the date the picture was taken. It has never been 'modified'

That's the date the phone itself reports for the picture.
The phone only supplies one date for the pictures: 'time created'.

The Date fields in Windows have always been wacky.
"Date", "Date Accessed", "Date Created" & "Date Modified" often make no sense.

Also, there are multiple different tagging schemes for images.
I wouldn't be surprised if your camera uses IPTC or EXIF tags.

(You need to click a few times to see it full size)
