    Black/greyish background in windows explorer.

I found this image on the internet somewhere. How can I have such dark interface in windows 10 file explorer ?

Moreover, this is not a separate file manager. If you take a closer look on the left edge, you can see the a cropped portion of list having pinned shortcuts which is also dark.

From what I understand, if you select dark theme (Settings-->Personalization-->Colors-->scroll down and select "Dark". I'm not sure if you need to log off and back on as mine has always been dark.

That setting you're mentioning is already activated in my PC probably since the last six months. The folders still have the white background in the windows file explorer like it's always been as seen in Windows 98,2000,XP, 7, 8, etc.

I probably should have asked first but were you able to update to version 1809 before Microsoft pulled? The dark gray FileExplorer is only available in v1809 and later insider builds.
