Shortcuts dissapear when click start button

Since I have updated to 1809, when I go to close down my laptop and I click the start button all my shortcuts (now called apps) shut down.

I have not had this before on any machine. Does any one know if it is some setting in settings?

Also, on my wife's pc, when it starts up it all ways opens up (showing the) last web page viewed.

This always opens up as a small page. When I adjust it back to full size it then stays at this size until we shut pc down. If we restart we have to adjust it again.

Hi, could you clarify please? You say your shortcuts 'shut down'. Do you mean they disappear?

Does the start menu otherwise behave normally?

How does the start menu 'know' you are intending to shut down the PC? - I can't see what makes the difference between being about to shut down and using the start menu normally.

Do you mean

'My Windows 10 start menu isn't working properly?'

What do you mean exactly by 'shortcuts disappear'?

Please post a picture- photo, screenshot, whatever.

Meanwhile - repair tutorials for the Start Menu: try each in turn and see if there's any improvement.

If not, please try creating a new user, log in as that user, and see if the start menu works properly then.

If you see the same problem then, you can try anin-place upgrade repair install which keeps all programs, data and most settings.
