Unable to load Sounds, View advanced display settings or GraphicsDrivr

Hello I'm having quite a strange problem.

Yesterday my PC started acting quite strange by not letting me access certain functions of Windows 10 like opening "Sounds" or viewing my advanced display options. On top of that, I couldn't access NVIDIA Geforce Experience or update the program itself. When I try to access "Sounds" or the advanced display I am returned with a blue message saying "This App can't run on your PC"

I've tried everything I've been able to figure out to solve these strange issues. I've done Sfc /scannow both normally and in safe mode that fails every time around 40% with the line "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation."

I've also tried the DISM route with /Online /cleanup-image /restorehealth which again like SFC, stops abruptly through the process and returns me with "The WOF driver encountered a corruption in the compressed file's Resource Table." Included in the attachments is the DISM log that was made from the error.

On top of that I also reset my hard drive twice. Trying SFC and DISM again with no avail. My resets included keeping my files and when that didn't work I did a full reset. I am always met with the same results and no improvements.

I'm not sure if my Windows is corrupted or something wrong with my hard drive. I'm totally lost here and would appreciate any help with this strange problem.

    Thank you.

Hi JohnSmithh. Welcome to the TenForums @JohnSmithh

At this point I would do the inplace repair from freshly created bootable media. An 8GB USB Thumbdrive is required. There was a bad driver being pushed by Windows update which impacted sound and know there is another update that is supposed to correct that. In any event I would do the inplace repair. I usually recommend backing up personal data, which I assume you've already done given your comment you did a full reset.

Update: Rolling back to the last update worked! Thank you for the help @Caledon Ken . My corrupted apps have been reset and I'm in the process of downloading my graphics drivers. I hope this can help anyone else struggling with the Windows October update.

Yes this has been a mess.

    Glad it is sorted.

If you haven't tried Macrium Reflect might I suggest you have a look at it. Free, reliable, and member approved.

I use it to take system Images. Should MS, a vendor or me do something screwy it is a simple restore.

Based on your symptoms, I speculate that a graphics driver update might be involved -- especially, given that Nvidia pushed a new driver for your graphics card's model family a day or two ago (I installed one for my GTX 1070 yesterday, which I would guess is the same driver your card would also use).
