How to get full permissions for C drive folders?

I just ignore that then? Can I batch edit the users/marti/ registry entries somehow?

Editing the registry like that will most likely break something.

If you're able to access the item after using "Take Ownership" on it, then it's fine to ignore.

That 'worked', and in Users there is no folder 'Marti' now, just 'Martin'. The registry still had quite a number of entries though with users\marti\ after I followed through what you said in that thread, and I spent an hour changing each one by hand.. I searched the registry for instances of \marti\ and there were none, so I thought that that would be the end of that.

However, when I install the add take ownership reg keys from the thread to which you gave the link and then right-click on folder '...users\martin' and run it (the context menu is there now), I get a cmd window showing that permissions are being given to files/folders in ... users\marti\....

I had the same problem changing account named User to account named Chris. I got a lot of permissions issues where permissions were still assigned to the original. I used account profile fixer to create a new account and move date from old profile to the new one.

However I still had issues. In the end what worked was to rename the account back to the old name and leave it at that.

Try running netplwiz and see if you have any greyed out options (like I did) but currently fixed.

RE: Editing registry to change paths. I tried that and it just screwed things up even more with regards to permissions.

Maybe if the renamed user account had admin rights (as in my case) it would cause permissions problems?

Well, ignoring that then, for the rest it seems to have worked. I was using a batch script to replace a couple of cfg files in a program folder within 'Program Files (x86)'... before I installed the take ownership context menu reg entry, I couldn't get it to work. I haven't gone into the permissions tab yet to see what has changed, but the script now runs without complaint and overwrites the cfg files with mine, so it looks like all is well. (Oddly, I have had to add a couple of lines to the script to delete the original cfg files first - simply overwriting them doesn't seem to work, whereas deleting then pasting from backup does. Odd, but 'whatever'!).

EDIT: Re. the user account name change.. I didn't encounter the user name 'marti' again after I changed the paths in the registry (or any other issues) until I ran take ownership, from the context menu, on the user folder 'martin'...

Actually I never had any problems with the name change until windows upgraded to a new version. That is when permissions problems began - error messages stated that permissions were required but SID and Name mismatch. Permissions needed old profile SID and name in order to work. I'm not expert on permissions. Here's what I see for program files (32bit machine)
