How to scan/print sensitive documents and upload them?

Hey all. Got an issue and like feedback. I have a laptop where i do most things on it except stream things on it anymore due to worrying about viruses/malware etc. I have to print a few documents and then fill the form out and then upload it to a site. So i don't have to email those documents to them via email.

What i did was from my main email account, send the documents i need to print out to a secondary email for this sole purpose. Thus if anything happens to this secondary email such as hack etc, i do not care. I want it so i could print out some documents without logging into my primary email on another computer. At the moment, i have an old desktop computer to use. I also have a printer as well. The thing though is this desktop computer, i had clean reinstall it but issue is im not sure if it has virus or not because i didn't clean reinstall it properly. So what i did here was log into that secondary email and then printed out the documents. I then had to fill out the information in a few of these documents. Then i scanned them on the desktop computer and its saved there.

Now what i need to do is upload these documents on a site as that is how i send it to the other person. What is the best way to do this? One way i thought was send these attachments to my primary email. But if i do this, i have to open the attachments and save them to my computer Then i go to that site and then upload it. My issue is if my desktop computer possibly have virus, couldn't those attachments that i open and save on my laptop possibly get a virus? Or that is not possible.

The other thing i thought would be just log into that site i need to upload my attachments on and then upload it from the desktop computer. That way, i never have to download any attachment on my main computer.

Thoughts on what is best option here?

The one issue i thought about with the 2nd option would be if my desktop is infected with virus/malware, then isn't logging into that site that i need to upload the attachment/documents on bad because my login for that site is an email? Of course the password isn't the same as my email one but it would be the password for that site. But if i type my email in an infected computer, could a hacker try to hack that email since i typed it in? Again im not logging into that email on the desktop computer with my username and password, but that site that i log into, its the email i primary use. Thus i wonder if it has malware, could i pose a danger to my email account just by typing that email as a login for something else.

I like to mention thats its a gmail account for both emails. The other thing i thought was would it be more safe if i click on add to my drive instead of downloading it? On gmail if you preview the attachment, does it pose the same risk as downloading the file?

Is there a way to check to see if the attachment on gmail has a virus before downloading it? Again, im sending the attachment from the desktop with the secondary email... to my primary email where i log in with my main laptop. Im concerned if my desktop has a virus/trojan and that could make those attachments that i send infect my primary laptop.

Dare I pose the obvious question...is there a specific reason you are so concerned about the security of your machine being compromised?

There are a lot of comments to make about the various things you've said, but in simple terms:

    1. If you believe you have a vulnerable machine, get that seen to before using it for any kind of confidential or personal activity.

    2. E-mail is one of the less secure ways to transfer files between two machines, especially if they are in the same physical location and both belong to you. You're exposing the files to 'the internet' when there isn't really a need.

    3. If someone is maliciously monitoring your activity (specifically, keylogging) then they may capture an e-mail address that you type in as part of logging into the site, yes. I daresay that if your machine is infected to that degree then they likely already have your e-mail address. Also, on its own, it is not harmful as far as getting into your account. The most harm you can do with just an e-mail address is either (a) spam it or (b) sign it up elsewhere which may cause a social compromise.

    4. Google have their own malicious scanning software built in to the package. Those files are scanned to some extent when you send them. Indeed, they're likely scanned at the point you're sending them from your primary account and then at the point you're receiving them at your secondary account.

Back to my original question: what evidence is there that one of your machines has been compromised?

Hi there. Well the thing is i would be printing/sending sensitive information. So thus i don't want to log into my email in a public computer place or cafe to print something because i don't want to log into my email on public computer. I also don't want to put it on a usb stick and stick it to public computer where it could possibly infect the usb and then when i connect it to my laptop, there could be malware. So that would mean, best thing is to send my documents to a dummy email so to speak, then log in to that email and print it and scan it with that right?

Basically i need to print a document, fill it out, scan it back and email it to someone. But i dont have a printer. So i have to use a public computer to print/scan.

Go to the Library. Ask for help. They have "stuff" there.

There is no public library where im located. Im not in the US at the moment.

Hi there. Well i had to print out some tax documents. I did this last year at those places where they have public computers to use and you pay a fee to use the internet and print documents.

The thing is at the moment, i do not remember exactly how i did this last year. I have to do this again. I don't have a printer/scanner. Every year, i only have to print 2-3 pages only.

Im pretty certain what i did was on my regular computer, download the files, send it to an email that i use only in public places to print documents... such that when i log into that gmail account in a public computer and print the documents, im okay since i dont access my regular email in a public computer. Then i would delete those documents when i get back to my apartment etc. Do you agree this is the best way to do something like this?

The one other thing though is i need to have the documents printed out, then need to sign it and then email it. But not only that, i have to fill out some items on the form. But when i fill this out, what is best way to scan it or get picture of it where i could email this?

I have this program called camscanner on my iphone and im pretty certain i used this a while back as i see about 2 years ago, i have a document that was done this way. But i don't think i did this last year. So do you have any tips on what i can do here? I need to fill out these tax documents, then need to scan it where i have to send it as an email attachment. But i did read recently that camscanner has malware so im not so sure about all this now.

I know they have a scanner at one of those places. So i could go there and print out documents, sign and fill them, then have them scan it using their scanners, then have them put it in my usb stick? Then get back on the public computer and then send that scanned files to my not real gmail account? Then when i get back to my apartment, log into that email and send those documents to my real email. Then email it to the person with those documents.

Excuse me if this is long to explain. But i don't want to risk putting a usb stick that was in a public computer into my own personal laptop because virus/malware concerns me a lot. Thats why i have a usb stick that i use specifically for things like this.

    @paulyjustin

Is this connected to your recent thread you just marked as solved without commenting on the solution? The "3 pages" involved in that one and this one lead me to think so. Are we dealing with the same general issue? How to get one of the pages so you can fill/sign, and then do something with it. They seem connected.

The recent thread, now marked solved, dated today, 9/14/2019 at 4:58pm ET is here:

How to make a multiple page pdf file into 1 page for printing?

    Please advise. Thanks.

This is related to that thread a bit yes. But this is more important. The other thread, i know that i can print the 3rd page by pressing print page 3 and that is all. But i wanted to know if i could make a new document with only 1 page.

For this issue, i want to be able to print document, sign it and fill out some information in it, have it scanned... so i could send it via email. If i had a printer/scanner with me at the moment, this is simple. But im not in the US at the moment. So i have to use a public computer and maybe scanner.

Last year when i did this, i know went to the public computer place to print out those documents by using a new gmail account i created so i have those documents sent to that gmail account, then log in with my password and printed it out. Then i signed those documents and filled it out but what i don't remember was how did i get those documents scanned where i was able to send them via email.

Because if i had the ppl at that computer place scan it for me, they had to have put it in a usb of mine and then i plugged that usb into their computers, then send those documents from the dummy gmail account to my real gmail account. Then i send from my gmail account to the person i need to send it to you. But i dont think i did this last year.

I want to know can i print those documents from the computer place and sign them and fill them out, then take a picture of it with say my iphone, then scan it that way so i could send that to my email and then ultimately to the person i want to send to.
