My search bar freezes when I type in it

    Hi :)

I navigate my computer by pressing the Windows key and then typing to search. Lately I've been experiencing issues, that it won't register that I'm typing, and/or it freezes when I type and I have to restart "Windows Explorer" Through the task manager.

Additionally, if I open a "Settings" window, and then type in the search bar, it instantly crashes.

I have run both Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, with nothing coming up.
I have run the troubleshooter for "Search and indexing" with no problems being found.
I have restarted multiple times, and I am aware of the option to reset my PC, but I would prefer to avoid it.

    Thank you :)

Hi, can you confirm you haven't disabled Cortana?

    You could try:

Can't Type In Search Bar and Windows 10 Built-in Apps. Solved - Windows 10 Forums
may help - but your problem of course may have another cause.

It popped up when i got the PC, but it said something along the lines of "not compatible in your country/language" (I live in Denmark)

I'll try out the options you provided.

    Thanks :)

Cortana isn't available in Danish, I'm afraid. That may relate to the error message.

Try the items I posted above, post the outcome, and if no luck:

Now to isolate the problem - user profile or Windows:

Now the whole taskbar is frozen. I'm going to reset my computer to see if that helps, I'll write back.

    Thank you anyway. :)

You could try an in-place upgrade repair install which keeps all progs and data and most settings.
    Tutorial available.

You need to download an iso of the same build as your existing Windows.
    To find your Windows version:
Windows key + R, winverIf 1803 you're probably ok, as MS is not releasing 1809 at the moment.
