However, A laptop keyboard without a separate numeric keypad can switch the functions of a set of keys on the main keyboard to act as a numeric keypad. This happens when the function (Fn) key is pressed and held. The alternative function is usually shown on each key in the same colour (often blue) as the Fn key.

To enter Alt 0163 on such a keyboard, press and hold both the Fn + Alt keys, then type mjol (these are the keys temporarily behaving as 0163 on your numeric keypad while you press Fn).

If you want to use the numeric keypad for an extended length of time, you can press Fn and Numlock to switch to the numeric keypad, then Fn Numlock again to switch back to normal.

Thanks for suggesting this, I didn't know about it and I'm sure will be useful for others in future but upon investigation it doesn't work for my model, as yourself and Try3 have since worked out.
I did discover FN + Insert is Sleep but there doesn't seem to be any other hidden functions, nor could I find any sort of map of them for this model despite an extensive Google search.

Here's what my keyboard actually looks like:
No markings unfortunately, nor is there a NumLock key.

I also looked in the BIOS to see if any settings needed to be toggled, and I did find one referring to numlock: "This option specifies whether the NumLock function should be enabled when the system boots." It was already enabled and I didn't change this, however this doesn't seem to have any affect.

If you declare the keyboard to Windows as a UK layout then you will get £ by pressing Shift 3 whatever the key actually has marked on it. Similarly, you will get € by pressing AltGr 4 {AltGr means the right-hand Alt key}.

I just stuck labels on the keys concerned so I could see what they were really producing.

Thanks for the suggestion & for listing out the differences between the two keyboards, and apologies I realise it's the second time you've mentioned this solution but I forgot to respond the first time.
Put simply I'm just not that keen on stickers as I think they'd look quite messy, and would mean certain keys would have a different feel.

I realise that might sound silly but I'm going to stick with switching between keyboards via WIN + spacebar (it's pretty quick, probably more so than ALT + 0163) until MS fixes this (I would have thought that the currency symbol chooser as per the screenshot in my original post was meant to accomplish what I'm after) or someone can let me know a better alternative.

Thanks for the list. I can't get FN + B nor FN + S to do anything but I'm not particularly worried about that.
