Battery Backup For Laptop When Power Outage?

Hi there. Thanks for that information. But i'm not going to be in the apartment for a few weeks. And if there is power outage, i don't want it to keep beeping so loud where my neighbors wonder where that sound is coming from. Does that make sense?



Cat, do you ever use the same ups you have as mine as backup for your laptop or something? The person above say most UPS give you 15 minutes... but i assume the ups we both have... if you connected it to laptop only when no power, you probably could get at least an hour?



Okay i will make sure i will leave it plugged in and on completely and have my laptop and monitors connected to it when im back in my apartment. But based on the info i gave you, would you say my battery is damaged because I did not have it connected for almost 3 months or so? And if i get a battery replacement, the cost should not be that much? I googled the battery replacement and on a us site it showed like 32 dollars... that doesn't seem right as that is way too low? But im not in the US so i cannot buy this. I have to get it off amazon mexico etc. But the price range for this should be around how much? Im just frustrated that i did not know, its suppose to be plugged in to wall outlet at all times. I read that if you don't, it can cause damage to the UPS right? Because no one mentioned this to me earlier in the thread. It was just have it plugged in at all times to wall outlet even when not using. No one ever said it could cause damage and i read online now if you don't have it plugged it for even 7 days, it could damage it? I thought... well no point of having it connected since i'm not using it. I just make sure its battery is at 100% so when power outage, then i connect laptop to it. That was my logic.

Hey there. I'm not blaming anyone for this. I meant... im surprised when people mention about always keep the ups plugged in and on... where i said why would i do this if i only need it for power outage, that someone doesn't mention... if you don't leave it plugged in at least once every few days or a week, the battery can go bad. You say read the manuals. Okay i will say this. I never read the manuals and im sure most ppl do not read manuals. Imagine you buy a wireless mouse or a razor... would you be reading the manual? When i got the UPS, instructions seem simple... i forgot if i read manual or checked site but i then charged the UPS for at least 8 hours etc.


I mean think about it. Imagine you bought a new computer and used it for a bit and then haven't used it for a while. Then you find out if you don't have it plugged in the computer can go bad. Well of course that is not same situation, but how would anyone know this? Example i have a dell power companion that i only used a few times only. Im positive you could just leave it unplugged for months and there is no issue with it. But a UPS has to be plugged in almost all the time or no more than a few days otherwise it can go bad?


Well if i do have it damaged, i want to know will the replacement batteries be not that expensive. I paid a lot for this UPS because in Mexico, electronics cost much more. I checked amazon.com for us pricing and it seems a replacement battery will cost around 30 dollars or so... is that right? Has anyone got replacement battery with a UPS and hows its pricing? Now if it cost like 50-60 usd in Amazon mexico or similar site, thats fine. But i dont want to spend another 225 dollars plus for another UPS. Of course if i get a new UPS, it will be plugged in all the time.

Also im not in the apartment now and won't be for a while. I left the UPS plugged in and just turned it on. There is nothing connected to the UPS though. But it should be fine if i keep it like that? I decided to do that because i think maybe when i come back to the apartment a while back, the UPS could be back to normal? Or did me not having it connected to outlet for months probably discharged most of it? The thing is you can't make these batteries get back to normal right? Also i find this strange because what if you bought a UPS from someone and it takes them more than a week for a UPS to get to you? Wouldn't this cause battery damage to UPS as well?

Hi there. I forgot to post it here instead. But because you also have the same powerbank dell pw7015l is which i why i ask.



But i bought a 2nd dell pw7015l power bank but got it off amazon. 1st one i got from dell directly but this time went with amazon because it was cheaper. I received it earlier and noticed.


It didn't have plastic wrap over it like the one dell one 6 months ago.


The box that it was shipped in looks completely different than the one i received 6 months ago. Its the same pw7015l powerbank so should this be a concern?

The box that was shipped from amazon looks like this.. except it says pw7015l. I cannot find a pw7015l box that looked like the one i received today.

Also when i research this hybrid adapter/powerbank, i read tons of these got recalled.


So should i return it? The box is not even in plastic wrapping like it was from dell directly 6 months ago. But im more concerned with this could be tampered with etc.

I could see you making headway if the answer were choice A or choice B.

Well im very paranoid when it comes to these things. I read about you borrowing someones usb cable where if that person is a hacker, well you now have malware on your phone.


I also have bitlocker because of this.


But previously i read that malware by power banks where plug into via power cord is not possible or impossible or very rarely, thats why i thought okay fine i get it then. But then others say almost anything could be plant in.


I use programs like lastpass and keepass where i have all my info there for everything. So thats why im concerned about computer security.
