    UPS is not intended for long duration use, only to provide sufficient backup power for completion of a document then an orderly shutdown of the computer, probably not much more than 15 to 20 minutes, certainly not hours
    .
    As stated in Post #2 a UPS is designed to keep the computer powered on after a power outage for about 10-15 minutes, so you can save your work and safely shut down your computer the normal way. It is not designed to power your computer for hours on end.

    Hi there. It doesn't lose power for hours everyday. Sometimes it happen once or twice a month. There are times none. When there is a power outage, pretty much the entire area has that issue. So you can't move to another apartment.

    Thus i want to know what backup issues i can use for this.

    You say a UPS is not designed for this. But you can use it to make your computer last longer right... just not preferred? Are there any risks with doing this?

    It's a laptop, not a desktop with a monitor. My UPS running my desktop with 2 monitors is estimated to run 76 minutes.

    Winuser... so you have you done that before? Meaning power outage... you then continue to use your laptop for about 60 minutes?

    A UPS won't help you. Your laptop has a battery, which should last, if it's fully charged, 2 1/2 hours or in your case, 76 minutes. When you loose power, the battery will be available. The same as if you had a UPS, but it will last much longer then a UPS You can use your computer for at least an hour or so. If you loose power for more then an hour once or twice a month every month, I would consider moving out of the area.

    @spunk

    Well my laptop battery when fully charged would last about 1h15m to 1h30m.

    But say I use it on battery till its 5% or 20%. Then i connect the UPS to it. Say i connect a 1000VA UPS to it. How long would it charge my laptop before it runs out of power? My powerbank charges about 1h45m before it runs out power... and my laptop battery has around 73% battery left or about 1 hour or so. Are you saying a 1000VA UPS would not charge my laptop while using it for more than 1h30m? So how long would it get then?

    When there is a power outage, it almost always affect the entire area im located. Sometimes its in this block or surrounding blocks. But when there is a storm, it basically wipes out the entire area or most of it. Thus moving out oft he area does not work.

    Well sometimes there could be no power outage for a month or even 2 months. But sometimes there are 1 or 2 or maybe even 3. But usually its not more than an hour. But issue is if it last for like 3 hours or more, then i have an issue.

    The UPS will not charge your laptop battery. As has been discussed here, a UPS kicks in when there is no power to the computer (desktop/server) not a laptop.
    What you probably want is a Power Bank. This device has a built in battery, and plugs in the wall. When your laptop or any portable device, battery starts to diminish, and there is no available power, you can plug your laptop into this device to charge it up.
    Also, when you have power, if this is plugged into the wall, when you plug your laptop into it, it will charge your laptop much faster as the bank recharges it's batteries.
    Of course this only works if the bank is fully charged, and there is no power anywhere else.

    A UPS kicks in when power is lost at the outlet, not the device itself so why wouldn't it work? I have accidentally unplugged my UPS and my desktop and the two monitors kept working.

    Absolutely incorrect. The UPS senses power at it's input. The UPS is plugged into a wall outlet. When power is lost at the wall outlet, then the batteries in the UPS power the UPS outlets until the batteries run down. The UPS does not care what is plugged into it's outlets. Whether it be a desktop computer, laptop computer, or a toaster. That being said, most UPS's are designed to only provide enough power to properly power down the computer connected to them in order to avoid data corruption. Most UPSs also have a USB connection which the computer monitors. Since the computer cannot sense when the UPS power outlet is being supplied by the batteries or by the normal wall outlet power source, the USB connection sends a signal to the computer telling it to enter the normal shutdown sequence when the wall outlet power dies.
