    Windows error code 0xc00d3e8e

I’ve done everything that Microsoft has offered to fix my problem with changing media create dates for .MOV, MP4, etc files. The April update changed something to these files making them “read only, Windows error code 0xc00d3e8e” . I’ve tried everything, even reinstalling Win 7. Of course I could edit these files in Win 7.... but everyone is abandoning Win 7 even though everything runs faster in 7... 20% or more. Hopefully someone will have a fix for this read only error. Thanks

Hi HHH03. Welcome to the TenForums @HHH03

First for confirmation sake what version and build are you running. The most current is is 17134.320 although I see you are running Pro and you may be delaying them. If you are delaying please update to current level.

Right click Start, click Run, type Winver, enter

Did MS have you run sfc /scanow to a command prompt (admin) or powershell(admin)

If not please do so. If it fails it may be necessary to run up to three times. You can access command or powershell by right clicking Start.

fix my problem with changing media create dates
Hi, could you explain how you are doing that please?
    A screenshot would be helpful.

How does that relate to the error number? E.g.
    - do you get the error number only for files whose creation date you have changed
    or
    - do you get the error number when you try to change the creation date
    or
    - do you get the error number for all such files of that type, and if so when?

A while back I came across this small tool- it might be of interest.

I’m using build 17763.1 right now. The media files I’m have problems with can’t be date edited. I did try a windows build from about 2 years ago and you could edit the media created date. The lastest version is where I get the read only error code. The date of the file is also changed from the original date to the current date or something else. I have run CMD SFC / scannow, but not as many times as suggested. I haven’t tried using power shell for the SFC /scannow. I’m not sure of the syntax for using that in powershell. In addition, if the original media create date was 12/12/2012, the new version of windows will change that date to whatever it wants, I imagine the the date windows is installed, then I’m unable to change it to the current date; the read only error occurs. I’ll include a screenshot of this when I get home.... currently using my cell phone.

Only run sfc /scanow multiple times if you get a failure.

The syntax is the same. Some users when you right click on start get Command Prompt others get Powershell. Same command.

There is a tutorial to set what you want when you right clcik start.

With a brand new install you should not have errors.

Watch the date fields in File explorer. There is date, date modified, date created. If you right click in a column heading you can add a column.

Are you actually editing these files?

No I’m not editing them. For some strange reason the file creation date was changed somehow after Microsoft updates. You can edit other entries of these files, but the date created entry is totally locked and no software available will change it. Always gives the read “only error”.

What are you doing that gives you the read “only error”?

I'd like to try it but need to know exactly what you are doing.

Do you have backup of these files with correct date.

Did you try the software that dalchina posted, did it also end in error?

If I understand the problem you have specified. You had videos with the extensions .mov and .mp4. They had a file creation date, say back 12/12/2012. When you ran the update to V1809 the creation dates were changed to the date of the update and you cannot edit this date. Correct.

Can I ask how you did the update to 1809. Did you check for updates, use the Upgrade Assistant, use iso /esd media and ran setup. Then if Rich follows he can upgrade the same way.

Could you edit creation date in v1803, 17134.xxx?

If so I would fall back. There were some issues with the release of 1809 although the issue with files is that they were deleted, not date altered. You may have found, unfortunately another gaff.

I have done several “styles of installations”. USB, DVD... I normally do a clean install. I have the latest version now; 17763.1 Of course the April update already had the problem as it was acting up before this latest version. I discovered the problem when using windows photos app and it started showing me photos that were taken 2 and 3 years ago as recently taken. I tried correcting the date on them... then the error code appeared. I also tried a windows 7 install as a fix... the interesting part is that I did a benchmark test (Passmark) of 7 and I was astonished by the fact my CPU rating was 500 points higher than windows 10 (8480 vs 8947). After using Win 10, Win 7 isn’t a good choice for me. I guess I’ll have to go back an earlier version of Win 10. Suggestions anyone on which version I should use and where I could get the .ISO file?
