help in restoring accidentally deleted folder in "Pictures" folder?

hi all,

i connected my iphone to my laptop to transfer my photos from my phone to my laptop, so that i could delete the photos in phone to reduce storage. but, i ran into a problem when i put all the transferred photos in a folder then i moved the folder to the "pictures" folder. but then i accidentally pressed "ctrl+x" while the folder was selected. so, it was deleted. i tried all day trying to recover it, but i really can't find a way. please help. any help would be appreciated. thank you.

the folder deleted contained really valuable photos to me. they were photos of my last vacation with my friends. i hope this could be fixed

Is that a remapped key combo for your laptop? By default Control + X usually copies it. The folder would still be there. If it deleted it, did you get a dialogue box saying the folder is too large for the recycle bin, do you want to permanently delete it? Otherwise it should be in the recycle bin.

it didn't show a dialog box, and i can't find it on my recycling bin. i searched for the name of the folder in start but it didn't show up

Hi, as essenbe says, for the folder to disappear simply by pressing CTRL X would be unexpected.

If you had subsequently pressed CTRL V, it would have been moved somewhere else.

There seem 2 possibilities:
a. If the folder still exists on disk it's somewhere you haven't looked.
A 3rd party utility such as Everything by void tools or Locate32 could help (instant search after building a database)

b. The folder has somehow been deleted. If so, whilst it would remain on the disk, it would be as unallocated space and could have been overwritten, in which case you won't recover much, if anything.

Try Recuva (free), deep scan option.

Note: I usually act cautiously when doing this- copy, back up, then delete, rather than simply moving.

As dalchina said, Control + X (unless re-mapped for any reason) is usually "Cut" and normally it does not delete the file/folder from its original location until you press Control +V to paste them to a new location. So, search for them with Everything as he has recommended (voidtools). Although having said that, it is important to remember that if the files are indeed deleted, you should try to minimize all activity on that particular hard drive and use an Undelete utility as soon as possible. I would use another computer to search for and download both "Everything Portable" and a good Undelete Utility to a USB stick to later on run on the target PC ( There are a number of Undelete utilities recommended in TenForums if you search for them. I have used "Puran Undelete Portable" from a USB stick with reasonably good success: Puran File Recovery Download

What shows in Sign in to iCloud - Apple Use the iCloud app to transfer photos, not hook your phone up. The photos should still be on your phone, but may be in Recently Deleted Items.

Have you tried using Recuva (https://www.ccleaner.com/recuva)?
It's a program that lets you recover your deleted files.
