The false notification is back, And i have notifications enabled in background apps as mentioned in the post above.

If i hove the mouse pointer over the notification it says "notifications not enabled", If i right-click the notification and select turn on notifications, Notifications still show as "not enabled"

What does running Winver tell you your version and build are John? I was updated to v1809 build 17763.194 two nights back and so far every aspect of notifications I was having problems with hasn't recurred. I only hope that continues to be the case.

Is there no edit for the posts?

EDIT: I just updated to 1809 Build 17763.194, My firewall was blocking Windows updates.
I will have to wait a day or two to see if the false notification is fixed.

I have the option to edit posts, and can still edit old posts as long as I've logged in PoorUserName.

    John.

Well with my system running 24/7, today I found the notification icon was white indicating I had new notifications. But none were displayed when I opened it. The Services options panel showed the service was running. I stopped it and restarted it, but still no notifications were displayed.

So I rebooted the system, found the notifications icon dark, indicating either no new notifications, or that existing notifications have been read. When I opened it I found 3-4 notifications I'd not yet seen. So there's still something is rotten in the state of Windows 10 even with the v1809 Build 17763.194 update.

    I finally found my fix.
From the command line I can run sc query state= all
If I search the results for these two strings: WpnService and WpnUserService_.
... I get two names: WpnService and WpnUserService_7e8d2
The name of the latter one will vary from time to time. In this case the suffix is 7e8d2. Next time it might be different.

Anyway ... if I run these four commands, all is well again.
    net stop WpnService
    net start WpnService
    net stop WpnUserService_7e8d2
    net start WpnUserService_7e8d2

Since I run Cygwin (a Linux emulator), I wrapped up all of that into a script:
    Code:
    for item in WpnService WpnUserService_
    do
      service_name=$(sc query state= all | d2u | grep "$item" | grep "^SERVICE" | sed -e "s/.*: //")
      echo "$service_name"
      echo "y" | net stop "$service_name"
      echo "y" | net start "$service_name"
    done
    exit 0
Hi I downloaded Cygwin and tried to run this code but it didn't work
    I have the same problem
Can you guess why the code might not work?

    Does it run?
Does it give any error messages?
In the Services control panel ... can you find the services called WpnService and WpnUserService_xxxxx ?
