I'd like to get some opinions if it something that is safe to do, does it really work? And is this one of many ways or the only way to lock a folder without using a third-party software and Windows 10.
It depends what level of security you are trying to achieve. No, it's not ultimately secure as the content isn't encrypted.
So the choice would be yours, depending on what it is you're trying to secure and why.
If I want to make a folder secure and not risk losing it what would you suggest using that Has a high level of security?

Anything that provides encryption is best - thing of people accessing your disk using a live boot disk without Windows running, so no Windows features by way of file attributes or permissions would then hide the content.
E.g. Veracrypt/Truecrypt - the latter free but no longer developed, but still valid, the former provides limited space for free.

Yes, I understand that backing up is the best way not to lose something, I currently have 3 HD's. redundant system so I have three copies of everything I own on my computer. So when I was talking about losing, I was meaning screwing it up.
I'm not worried about somebody coming in using a live boot disk, if somebody's got to that point I've lost everything anyway. I'm talking about just the Safeway to protect a folder from prying eyes.

And you have Pro so you have Bitlocker available...
Depending on the size of the folder and any other dependent factors (software), you could keep it on removal media (thumb/ext hdd, etc.). Only attach when needed, then hide away.
