    It Won't Wake Up! Again

If this is the wrong forum please move to the appropriate one.

Yesterday my Dell Desktop refused to wake from sleep. Right click and the HDD sounds like it spins up but no monitor. I've made no changes to any settings and this just came out of the blue. Requires a Hard Power Off Shutdown and boot up.

First I thought it was due to the recent KB4458469 update, so I did a Macrium Restore to the day before that update. Still the same dead sleep.

Once before this happened and I rolled back the Intel Graphics Driver for a fix. Tried that and still no fix. Reinstalled the current driver now.

Tried another Macrium Image Restore from an earlier date. No success.

Only option has been to NEVER let it sleep.

Anyone with a suggestion is appreciated. Thanks for your time.

    Hi,

You may open Device Manager > Network adapters > yourAdapter(s) > Properties and see if under Power Management tab the "Allow the computer to turn off..." option is checked as should be by default.

Also do the same for Universal Serial Bus controllers > USB root hub(s)

    Hope that helps...

I just 'fixed' a friend's laptop with same issue, no wake from Sleep. Pulled out all usb connections, Power button shutdown, remove power cord and battery. Hold down Power button a few secs, a few times, wait 5 min, re-assembled, all done & working.
You might try removing power cord after hard Power Off and hold down Power button a few times for a few secs to clear any memory residual and see if it helps. Quick and easy enough to do & test. Good Luck

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

OK @HeM All of them were checked. I un-checked each one and then re-checked each. Like I say the only thing that doesn't wake up is the Monitor. Turning it off and back on has no effect. When it's trying to wake up, every light on the unit and Router's blinking and coming to life. Except the Monitor.

And @mrgeek I'll give your suggestion a try in the morning.

    EEDIT:

Power Management Settings changes Off and back On make no change.

@mrgeek we have a WINNER! Just went through your process and the first cycle has worked properly. Never would have thought this process would solve something like this! Thank You Sir. Much appreciated.

Glad the easy thing to try worked for you. Sometimes the memory just stores a bad 'last known state' and just needs to be cleared out. Just having the power cord and/or battery in, is enough to keep the bad setting alive.

Please mark topic Solved so someone else with the same problem can find this thread. Have a great day.

Hard Reset doesn't fix a dam thing.
The issue is still present and reappears again.
This is not a 'FIX', or a 'PATCH' ... this isn't even a workaround.
A workaround identify's the problem then gets the system working again., all this did was get the system working again.
    The problem still exists.
