Why doesn't exist Bitlocker in Windows 10 Home ?

    Good day, tenforumers !

Last week I wanted to protect my USB Flash Drive with a password, but, surprise, there is no Bitlocker.

What is the reason for that the Bitlocker is not in the Windows 10 Home version ?

    Good luck
    & God bless you !

That's called marketing - an MS decision. Pay more- you get more...

    You could use Veracrypt (free):

While device encryption can exist on Home (which is bitlocker by another name) it only applies to local drives and only certain hardware configurations.

Really the only interesting difference (for home users) between home and pro is bitlocker. Domain join is irrelevant and group policy can be added or done by regedit. Pro keeps having features removed (blocking store, ReFS) that Education and Enterprise have and is therefore (IMO) a lot of money for something (encryption) that should be standard on all devices.

It is shameful really in 2018. Any phone you buy (even the cheapest) will have encryption as standard. Android since marshmallow, iPhone (I think but didn't check) always. AES instruction is in all modern CPUs for decades - it is just MS wanting an extra $100 for frankly nothing.

Still you must either upgrade to Pro or use veracrypt. I don't believe you can realistically (and it would be a hack if you did) add bitlocker to home.

    Option 2 - 8Gb

The article says Veracrypt (free) is limited to 2Gb - I don't know personally.

Truecrypt is still available (development stopped)
