Sorry but I cannot think of the name of the popup list that appears when one right-clicks on a taskbar icon but when I do this on my taskbar Word icon there are some titles that have been deleted. I cannot unpin them and now have a bunch of useless/ non existing files on this list that are taking space that I would like to use..None of the other taskbar icons have this problem.
How can I fix this problem?

If you're unable to do what Andre posted above, then you could use an option in the tutorial below to clear all recent and frequent items in all jump lists.

And, if you don't want to clear all, open Explorer and past this into location bar. Strange, it's written in the tutorials Brink linked to, but it's not in any of later options...
You'll see the list of your recent files and folders. Just delete ones that give you problems..Code:%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent

I couldn't do as Andre listed as this was part of the problem. I could not unpin or remove the pinned files.
None of the entries were in my recent files list.
Option two of Brinks shortcut removed all of my unpinned files but did not remove the pinned files.
Option one of Brinks shortcut was the cure. It removed everything in the jump lists of my taskbar icons. And as I had copied down all the files I wanted to keep from all the jump lists and where they were located all I had to do was open all the files and pin them. Now all is OK.
