How long/when does it get better?

New HP Pavillion gaming computer. Fast until all of a sudden the cpu is running at 30% at idle. Things slow to a crawl, long story short, reinstall W10 overnight because satellite data limits. Back to fast. Now I've lost all my email and browser profiles, I have to go back to my old w7 HD to get info. Remove all the startup crap. Get most things running again, it's 2 weeks now since the w7 crash. This AM the time has been changed to PST for some reason. One of my monitors keeps winking out., the screen size is either too large or too small, no adjustments to fonts in the OS. Who made this crap. I might have as well just installed Linux and started over. Everything MS touches turns to crap. Or is it just me? I still haven't installed office for Excel and Word. Fearful about that.

When does this end? Rant over.

Well, it's not just you, but with Windows 10 on close to 1 billion (1,000,000,000) devices, you are certainly in a very small minority. And considering that there is literally an infinite number of combinations of hardware that those 1 billions devices can have, I think Microsoft isn't doing all that badly.

w10 is like most stuff that we buy today. There are no instructions, no specs, support at cost and then they want to collect data from you to sell. I certainly didn't expect to be buying another smart phone only on my desktop. I want something to use at my pleasure, not theirs. It seems to me they took all the good stuff out of w7 and installed a bunch of stuff I don't want. And then made it hard to get rid of.

This is no upgrade from my w7 computer, the extra monitor doesn't even work right and everything in the browser or windows is either too small or too large the selection of 100% is so small I can't see it, and then at 125 or 150 the browser gets way out of control. As far as I'm concerned it's a disaster. I'll leave the social commentary to someone else.

Kinda like buying a pig in a poke. Just because 10 million other people think it's great doesn't mean anything to me. Perhaps some of us actually think for themselves, or should I say practice critical thinking which is very much in short supply these days.

Or maybe all my computers just work the way I want them to.

You didn't say what version of HP you're running, but have a look at this: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebo...044153#M556998
Also you can contact HP help with your specific problem: https://support.hp.com/us-en

Actually things are getting better. The CPU is running at 1-2% at idle. Things are going fast like when I got it, but after reinstalling the OS. I got up one night at 2am and rebuilt the thing, but not without loosing some data. I just wish the process could have been easier, I'm sorta thinking there was a glitch in the system from the get-go.

Today I got tired of trying to get the old laptop monitor working off the dvi port so I went to staples and bought a new HP 32" monitor. That paired with my old Asus 24" makes a nice combination. I should have bought a 32" years ago, now my 76 year old eyes can read without squinting. The wife wants one too now that she's seen it.

I'm getting enough confidence in the system that I'm about to reload all the specific little apps that I occasionally use. The ham radio app I use seems now to be running fine. It may have been that the laptop monitor was causing some OS interrupts, but it's gone. I even splurged and got a wireless keyboard and mouse. Much nicer. The stock HP keyboard was a piece of crap. So I've gotten rid of 2 horrible wires on the desk. Life is better. And my eyes are happier, I can sit back about 3' from the monitor and read things.

I still plan on getting rid of the MS stuff I consider junk, just because it makes me feel good. I was in such a good mood today I even got out the plastic Christmas tree and put it up for the wife. And all the lights came on. How much better can it get? Maybe a new spine?

Thanks for the rant. It was cathartic.

BTW it's an HP Pavillion 690-0073w Gaming Desktop with a GeForce GTX 1660 Ti video card.
